At Morrisons we delight in being different. We're proud to be, in fact. It's our mission to do more of what matters for our customers, for everyone who works here, for our suppliers and for the communities we serve. We want to offer our customers great quality food at low prices, prepared by our skilled people. It takes a unique approach to do that, and we achieve it through two vital components - our motivated and talented people and our clear control of the goods we sell. We started as a small market stall in Bradford in 1899 and now have over 500 stores and are still growing. We're the UK's fourth largest supermarket, but we're also much more than that.
Our offering is unique, as unlike other supermarkets, we make the majority of the food we sell. We like to do things our own way here, and own most of our supply chain (including our own farm) making us the UK's second largest fresh food producer. We're a multi-skilled bunch, and from our 18 manufacturing sites we make thousands of products, helping us get our products from field to fork faster, making them fresher and more affordable for our customers.
It takes a slick operation to achieve this, both behind the scenes (in areas such as logistics and at our Head Office in Bradford) as well as instore. And that's where our 'one team' and 'can do' attitude really comes to life. Our values are truly at the heart of our organisation. By living one shared philosophy, we work together across all levels of the business – from store colleagues to Board members – to reach the same goals.
We're always looking for ways to improve our customer experience, and rolling out our new format stores, as well as building new ones, has helped us offer our customers more and provide a great shopping environment. We know that not everyone wants to do a ‘big shop', which is why we're stepping up the growth of our Morrisons M locals, so that fresh food and friendly service is never very far away from our customers. We're growing our non-food areas too, and have launched our own-brand clothing range, Nutmeg. Our online family Morrisons.com has also been expanding, with Kiddicare (the multi-channel baby specialist) and Lakeland (the kitchenware and home shopping pioneer) joining our online wine offering- MorrisonsCellar.com. We're also very excited to have recently launched food shopping online. With so much going on at Morrisons, there has never been a more exciting time to join us on our journey.
