Nineteen Recruitment are a teacher owned, independent agency that specialise in the recruitment of temporary and permanent staff for our Education, Social Care and Public Sector clients.

We are delighted to once again be working with a partner school on an exclusive basis, recruiting on their behalf for the position of HR Manager.

This is a role offered on full time basis, in the first instance on an 18 month fixed term contract until a review is completed and term time plus 6 weeks (45/52).

This is a fantastic school located in the South of County Durham and offers a truly supportive, welcoming and nurturing environment for both its staff and pupils.

We are looking for a dynamic, experienced and knowledgable HR professional, suitably CIPD qualified and with experience of HR Management in a school, academy Trust or public sector organisation.

You will have sound knowledge of employment law and its application within employee relations casework and knowledge of School Teacher’s Pay and Conditions, and knowledge and experience of recruitment and selection and safer recruitment best practice

You will possess practical experience of organising and managing an in-house HR function and also posses sound experience of leading and advising with respect to the management of attendance, capability and poor performance and the undertaking of ER related investigations.

Job Purpose:
 To work as a member of the SLT contributing to the strategic leadership of the School.
 To lead, guide and develop the HR function within the academy, managing ER casework, and HR operations.
 To provide active leadership and support for Performance Appraisal system within the Academy in accordance with the Trust’s policies. To work with the Principal in the management of teacher performance appraisal and support the business manager in leading Support Staff appraisal.
 To take an active part in the performance management of direct report(s)
 To lead and manage the recruitment and selection of staff using the Trust’s recruitment systems, supporting and advising at selection interviews as required.
 To ensure that all staff received induction and that the probationary period is effectively managed by the relevant line manager.
 provide advice and support to the senior leadership team and middle managers in the effective management of people within the policy framework of the Trust.
 Through the Office Manager ensure that the school’s general administration is effectively managed.

MAIN DUTIES
HR Transactions
 To manage the recruitment the recruitment process of staff for staff using School Recruiter and any other system determined by the Trust.
 Provide advice and guidance to managers regarding recruiting, ensuring that recruitment of staff fits within the school structure and establishment.
 Ensuring the recruitment and selection is undertaken fairly and transparently and managing all aspects of safer recruitment and on-boarding.
 To ensure the PS People HR System is fully maintained and that starters/leavers and variations are entered in a timely fashion.
 Support the establishment and changes required to embed the staff self-service aspect of PS People.
 To issue contracts and ensure that induction and probation is managed effectively, guiding line managers as appropriate.
 Use data to monitor attendance and support line managers in managing absence, return to work interviews and implementing the Management of Absence Policy.

Employee Relations and Casework
 To provide a high level of advice and support to the Principal and other senior managers with respect to employee relations and casework management.
 To manage employee relations casework, seeking advice and support from the Central team as appropriate.
 To work with middle and senior leaders to build their confidence in addressing issues of conduct, poor performance or attendance – working with the policy framework and resources.
 To coach and work proactively with senior leaders in the management of capability and under performance.
 To advise on the undertaking of investigations connected with allegations of inappropriate conduct or any grievance that might be brought by a member of staff.
 To advise the Principal at disciplinary, grievance or other ER hearings.
 To work with the Principal and senior leaders with respect to the management of change within the Academy – including restructuring or redundancy programmes.
 To work with the Business Manager and Principal on the preparation of an appropriate business case for consultation. To manage the process of re-organisation as required.
 With the Principal to meet regularly with local and school based union representatives and consult with local and school based representatives as appropriate.

HR Development
 Develop line manager capability with respect to the effective management of people offering coaching, mentoring or appropriate in-house training.
 To build staff and manager understanding of Trust employment policies.
 To support the Principal with future re-organisations and change management as required to support the School’s journey to Ofsted Good or Outstanding.
 To create and develop internal systems and procedures to enable effective HR transactions and practice at the School.
 Maintain an overview of the Blue Wave Swift Appraisal and CPD system
 To oversee the preparation of Job Descriptions and Person Specifications in accordance with Trust guidance seeking advice from the Central team on evaluations.
 To provide appropriate support for external inspection – OFSTED, Boarding etc.
 To prepare reports for the Academy Council with respect to staffing and HR.
 Facilitate and contribute to Trust wide HR projects.
 To work closely with the Trust’s HR Director as required, responding to requests for information and following the Trust’s strategic framework for HR and operations.
 Attend Trust HR and Finance Network meetings.
