Manufacturing Engineer with Machine Shop / sub contract manufacturing experience required for 3-6 month with SME Manufacturer.

The remit of this role is to identify current bottlenecks in current manufacturing processes and to agree and implement changes that improve OTIF, reduce lead time and increase machine utilisation.

This role will suit an experienced Machine Shop / CNC Manufacturing Engineer / Works Manager / Production Manager with extensive experience in a lean CNC manufacturing environment who is able to review current production processes and implement corrective action, this experience could be within a sub contract machining or a OEM, 1st or 2nd tier manufacturing business.

- To reduce the backload on the machine shop capacity
- Improve parts availability and reduce lead times
- To improve capacity and efficiency of the machine shop

- To identify parts that are currently made in-house that could be competitively outsourced
- Reduce lead times by utilising capacity better – planning and machine utilisation
- Identify inefficiencies in the production routing and implement improvements

- Improve the production planning process
- Audit the machine shop’s assets (in terms of age and current utilisation) and compare against future manufacturing requirements (in-line with the growth strategy)
- Put forward a manufacturing strategy to support the business strategy:

- Change away from a jobbing/contract shop mentality to an on-time customer/product driven culture
- Employ MRP tools and culture
- Structure the machine shop around the characteristics of the different product streams
