Maintenance Engineer

£35,000 to £40,000


4 days on 4 days off, 4 Night on 4 Nights Off - 6 till 6 - 12 Hour Shifts

Purpose of Job:
General Electrical and Mechanical servicing, repairs, installation and testing, improvement projects and general routine maintenance tasks on a wide range of production machinery.

1. Responsibilities includes the whole of the Plant at Hinkley, and all its interests, activities and responsibilities including work, other operations, products, materials, property, equipment and safety, all within its site boundaries and the wider limits of its interests, activities and responsibilities.

2. Exhibiting and developing a culture of service to all departments within the Company.


1. Carry out duties assigned by Maintenance Supervisor, using own initiative and best judgement.
2. Propose alterations and improvements to all systems, plant, equipment and tools in the interests of the Company, the Department and safety.
3. Propose procurement of parts, spares, instruments, tools etc in the interests of the Company, the Engineering Department and all forms of safety.


1. To attend breakdowns and take appropriate action to return plant to production in a timely manner whilst adhering to safe working procedures and maintaining a standard of good engineering practice

2. Performing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) as required.
3. Ensuring that all Electrical installations adhere to the Safe Working Procedures, Instructions, and legal and best practice requirements.
4. Keeping clear, complete and appropriate records of all work carried out.
5. Ensuring that the Maintenance Supervisor is kept informed on all key issues.
6. Keeping up to date with technical and process developments throughout the company.
7. Following safe systems of work and complying with Health and Safety regulations.
8. Other duties as may be assigned by line management from time to time.

Skills and competencies required for this role:
• Extensive experience of working in an automated FMCG environment
• Extensive experience of working with processing and packaging machinery
• Mechanical qualification City & Guilds or NVQ L3 equivalent
• Electrical qualification City & Guilds or NVQ L3 equivalent
• 17th Edition electrical qualification
• Experience of troubleshooting and resolving PLC & Robotic issues
• Detailed experience of carrying out reactive, planned, preventative and predictive maintenance
• Knowledge of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)

• Can do approach to problems
• Ability to work independently and manage self and time
• Ability to communicate well with all levels of staff and contractors within the business
• Works well as part of a team
• Detailed problem solving abilities and experience of formal problem solving techniques
