One of the UK’s largest housing developers and providers, L&Q has an ambitious plan to grow its development pipeline, playing an important role in helping to solve the UK’s housing crisis. L&Q is dedicated to its social mission, but with a commercial approach to its development and financing activities.

The role of Financial Modeller has been created in the Development Finance function to help ensure our financial models and systems are able to support L&Q’s growth ambitions.

The successful applicant will be responsible for working alongside the rest of the Modelling & Systems team in building and developing the core financial models that are relied upon for the appraisal of a multi-billion pound pipeline. She or he will also take ownership for the data and information architecture of the function, as well as for managing important system upgrades.

You will need to be aware of fundamental concepts behind database and data mart design, along with experience in data modelling. You should already have, or be keen to develop, a deep understanding of discounted cash flow models. You should also be prepared to work on actively building links with colleagues in IT and Development.

The main duties of the role will include:

  • Building and developing new versions of L&Q’s DCF, budgeting and forecasting models
  • Taking ownership of the data requirements for the Development Department’s financial models
  • Leading in the design, development and implementation of new systems
  • Helping to maintain existing models
  • Liaising with colleagues in IT and helping to manage the work of external contractors and suppliers
  • Exploring new technologies available that may be of interest to the area

Your skills and knowledge should include:

  • Expert level knowledge of SQL
  • Understanding of the fundamental concepts behind data modelling, database and data mart design
  • Interest in learning more about property development modelling, financing and appraisals
  • Knowledge of DAX and Power BI desirable
  • Knowledge of VBA or other programming language relevant to financial modelling and/or visualisations desirable
  • Skills in project management, communication and building and managing stakeholder relationships
  • Educated to a Degree level or equivalent experience
