Safety Engineer - Shore Based - Southampton

Our Corporate Shipbuilding team of in Southampton is responsible for the major task of overseeing all aspects of the company’s new build projects. Deliver the process, co-ordinating the specifications and design approval for every part of each new build are key activities in this team.

We are looking for an experienced Safety Engineer to join a developing team. This role presents the opportunity to provide and apply technical expertise in the area of safety and marine equipment with regard to technical specification, design, and the development of new vessels.

This role will require you:

To provide and apply technical expertise in safety for plan approval activities
To participate in the design development, system design and evaluation of equipment specifications to ensure that all statutory and Company safety and operational standards and requirements are observed throughout.
To be clear on developments within the safety discipline area and how these should be implemented onboard our vessels.
To provide, manage and apply technical expertise in the area of safety and marine equipment with regard to technical specification, design, construction and conversion of passenger vessels, and to the operation of the existing fleet.
Responsible within the area of expertise for ensuring assets are safe, technically sound and provide longevity in terms of asset management

To manage own workflow in terms of reviewing specifications, drawings, diagrams and other technical submissions in accordance with the established procedures.
To understand the risk mitigation measures embedded in the contract and support the Principal Manager when measures need to be put into place.

We are looking for someone who is:

Either a Chartered Marine Engineer, or a Chief Engineer
Substantial experience of involvement in new large cruise vessel construction in a shipbuilding yard as an Owner’s representative/inspector or as part of the shipyard’s construction team
Broad understanding of ship systems and equivalent in the context of cruise ship design, construction and operation.
Specific knowledge of regulation and legislative framework at national and international level.
