Main Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning
 To regularly update knowledge with educational research and findings which promote good
practice in learning and teaching and share with SLT, middle leaders and other staff as
 To have up to date knowledge of OFSTED judgments of lessons - to advise and support
colleagues in preparation for inspection.
 To model excellent practice as a classroom teacher.
 To secure good – outstanding grading in all QA.
 To assist in the development of appropriate specifications, resources, learning schemes,
marking policies, assessment and teaching and learning strategies in the department.
 To assist in the day-to-day management, control and operation of course provision with the
department, including effective deployment of staff and physical resources.
 To monitor actively and follow up student progress.
 To work with colleagues to formulate aims, objectives and strategic plans for the department
which have coherence and relevance to the needs of students and to the aims, objectives
and strategic plans of the Academy.
 To teach students according to their educational needs, including the setting and marking of
work to be carried out by the student in the Acaedmy and elsewhere.
 To assess, record and report on the attendance, progress, development and attainment of
students and to keep such records as are required.
 To ensure a high quality learning experience for students which meets internal and external
quality standards and ensure a range of delivery methods are used which will stimulate
learning appropriate to student needs and demands of the syllabus.

Staff Development
 To develop and enhance the teaching practice of others.
 To share good practice with other colleagues in the team.
 To take a mentoring/coaching role in developing other colleagues.
 To shape whole Academy CPD
 Influence the Middle Leadership forum to shape whole Academy T&L strategy.
 To develop key cohorts of staff across the Academy.
 To research, evaluate and develop innovative approaches to T&L.
 To increase leadership capacity in the curriculum team.
 To research, evaluate and develop innovative curricular practice.
 To lead collaborative planning producing high quality teaching materials.
 To support the leadership of the Curriculum team.
 To contribute to the Academy procedures for lesson observation and take part in lesson
observation and learning scrutiny to set targets for raising achievement.
 To team teach with colleagues.
 To assist the Assistant Principal with monitoring, evaluating and reviewing the quality of
teaching and learning.
 To assist the Assistant Principal in the function of the QA system within the team.
 To follow agreed policies for communication in the Academy and where appropriate, to
communicate and co-operate with persons or bodies outside the Academy

Student Performance
 To accelerate student attainment and achievement within the classroom and ensure good to
outstanding progress of all classes taught.
 To set ambitious targets for all classes taught.
 To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a student
progress tutor.
 To ensure that the Assessment for Learning principles and guidelines are employed in
 To track student progress and use information to inform teaching and learning.
 To uphold the Behaviour for Learning system in the department so that effective learning
can take place and keep accurate records relating to student discipline.
 To alert the appropriate staff to problems experienced by students and to make
recommendations as to how these may be resolved.
 To be aware of and meet the needs of target/vulnerable groups of students e.g. LAC, EAL,
SEN, Pupil Premium, G and T AND Ever 6.
