A highly respected and diverse global engineering consultancy is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the Mechanical discipline in the Belfast office.

Based in the state of the art Belfast Office and reporting to the MEICA (Mechanical Electrical Instrumentation Control and Automation) Team Leader, you will lead the mechanical discipline in the Belfast office water team. You will be responsible for planning work activities and resource requirements. You will ensure technical quality is maintained and manage the review process. You will be responsible for managing and supervising colleagues in the production of project outputs. You will ensure that projects deliver the required commercial outcomes. You will be involved in writing proposals for new work.

You will be involved in mentoring more junior people to support and develop individuals in their technical specialisation.

You will collaborate with colleagues and clients as a part of teams delivering multidisciplinary projects. You will develop imaginative and innovative solutions in response to the project brief. You will provide input at all stages of the project life cycle from concept to delivery, including detailed design and advisory services

Applicants will need the following qualifications, experience and knowledge:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in mechanical engineering (or similar).
• Chartered or Incorporated member of the IMechE (or equivalent professional institution).
• Excellent knowledge of mechanical equipment used in potable water treatment, wastewater and sludge treatment, and network infrastructure projects.
• Excellent knowledge of closed loop hydraulics and proficient in open channel hydraulics.
• Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation and standards covering topics such as lifting operations and pressure systems.
• Experience of working in multidiscipline design teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experienced in writing specifications, reports and technical notes.
• Proficient user of Microsoft Office software including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.

It is also desirable that you have the following:

• Typically 7+ years’ experience in water or similar process industry.
• Understanding of established water sector biological and chemical treatment processes and awareness of new technology treatment options.
• Knowledge of relevant design tools and techniques such as HAZOP studies.
• Understanding of the requirements for working in confined spaces. May have training in confined space entry.
• Knowledge of ATEX / DSEAR / potentially explosive atmospheres.
• Experience of leading mechanical design teams.
• Experience of project management.
• Experience of contract management using the NEC form of contract.
• Knowledge of CDM Regulations.
• Knowledge of CAD software for creating P&IDs, 2D and 3D designs, and understanding of how this is used in the BIM environment.
• Knowledge of whole life cost methodologies.
• Mentoring of junior engineers.
• Full UK driving licence.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain the following:
• CSCS card
• National water hygiene training

The successful candidate may be required to obtain the following security clearances:
• Basic Clearance
• P4 Pass
• National Security vetting
• Scottish Disclosure
