Business Unit -- Motor Drive Systems

As future technologies evolve towards the More Electric Aircraft, UTAS has a significant need for high performance electric motors and drives across its broad product portfolio. This role is to create a world class capability in the design and manufacture of high performance electric motors and motor drive systems, working closely with other UTAS divisions both as customers and partners, to establish superior, differentiated technologies for future Motor Drive Systems.

Location: Fore Business Park, Solihull, located off Junction 4 of the M42, with direct links to the M6, M40 and the M5. Onsite parking. Please note that we are working to expand our premises -- with work due to be completed by 2019.


Principle Accountabilities

* Provide independent support design assurance activities such as design reviews, review & approval of documents and change management.

* Support Safety Review Board (SRB) and Product Integrity Committee (PIC) as required.

* To support project development teams with ensuring the technical integrity of products.

* Chair design reviews and ensure they are held and recorded in accordance with UTAS procedures.

* Support / lead resolution of problems or technical issues through the use of root cause analysis tools and processes.

* Help ensure engineering excellence across the mechanical engineering discipline through capturing lessons learned, ensuring best practice, creation of standard work, assisting with the mentoring and development of the engineering team.

* Support the definition development process and task tailoring required for the development of products.

* Provide support as required to UTAS business units to assist in resolution of technical issues, non-advocate reviews and UTAS Mechanical Discipline Council.

Essential Requirements / Personal Characteristics

MDSC product/technologies cover electrical rotating machines and electronic assemblies, so the ideal candidate will have deep knowledge and experience in these areas.

* Should be educated to Degree or equivalent level in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.

* Extensive years of relevant aerospace experience with significant levels of responsibility.

* Should have experience of design assurance processes and supporting airworthiness requirements.

* Must have an understanding of engineering materials and production methods relevant to them.

* Must be able to effectively communicate, formally and informally with peer group, other team members and senior management.

* Must be able to produce and deliver technical presentations to employees and customers at any level.
