The School - Lewisham, London

A special school situated in the London Borough of Lewisham is seeking a strong yet nurturing SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 5-16 years-old with social, emotional and mental health as their principal need. The school support children from various mainstream schools in the borough who are referred to them for their specialist provisions in helping pupils with SEMH and provide their families adopt coping mechanisms to manage behaviour and aid progress in the child’s learning. The schools teaching and learning staff provide practical and collaborative lessons according to pupils’ individual style and needs. Teachers and Teaching Assistants work cohesively alongside other members of staff to ensure pupils’ benefit from the expertise and provisions including an Outreach Team, Behaviour Mentors, Educational Psychologist, Therapist, Counsellor, Drama Therapist, Speech and Language Therapists and Social Worker who are regularly based on site.

Person Specification - Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA/LSA) - Lewisham, London

* Ideally candidates will hold a fully enhanced DBS, child and adult, qualification within Childcare and will have at least 6 months' experience of working with young children or adults with special educational needs and disabilities. Should you not have a DBS, we can apply for one when you come in to register
* You must be flexible in your approach to supporting children both in small groups and on a one-to-one basis
* You must have previous experience working with children or adults with special needs and disabilities including but not limited to Complex medical needs, Downs Syndrome, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Speech, Language and Communication difficulties, ADHD and physical disabilities, ASD, Autism, Complex Needs, and Emotional Behaviour Disorders.
* You must have a calm and positive attitude.

About the Role - Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA/LSA) - Lewisham, London

As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) you will be supporting pupils from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5, promoting a love of learning. These roles are daily supply and long term with competitive rates of pay, starting from £65, reflecting previous experience working with children and workload.

You will be required to:

* Take direction from the class teacher and support children in either small groups or on a one-to-one basis
* Work within the curriculum, as required offer support students with knowledge of life skills.
* Offer learning support to the children within your care and ensure that they are enjoying their learning experience.

This position is paying a daily rate of around £65 - £85 and you will be paid on a weekly basis.
