A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Business Intelligence Manager to join our organisation's UK Innovation and Insight team. Our vision is that the British Red Cross applies a data driven approach to its decision making, and the post holder of this position will play a key role in giving our people the tools and data to help us achieve this.

As a Business Intelligence (BI) Manager, you will lead, develop and take overall ownership for our corporate monitoring product suite within UK Operations. You'll champion the use of data, and will build positive and professional relationships with senior members of the UK Operations team, in order to shape the future of business intelligence, identify best practice, trends and learning, and ultimately lead the organisation towards a culture of insight led decision making.

You'll be a technical expert, and a subject matter leader on Business Intelligence. This will include Software and technology solutions (ETL, data manipulation, workflow management, data visualisation tools), Data management approaches (data architecture, data modelling, data wrangling and cleaning), and Business Intelligence infrastructure (servers and databases used to store data, systems architecture). You will use your knowledge to advise on these topics, and will help to influence the strategic direction of analytics and reporting within the organisation.

Supported by a team of BI Analysts and an Analytical Support Manager, you will also manage the handling and delivery of BI reports in response to requirements from within UK Operations.. These could vary from rapid interrogation of existing data, to large-scale exploratory analytics. Both these responsibilities will inform the business planning cycle, which the post-holder will be highly influential in informing and supporting with data and analytics.

Meet the team

Innovation and Insight is a key strategic priority for the organisation. Our ambition is to become the 'go to' organisation in a range of environments in the UK, such as the space between home and hospital, the emergency response market, support to displaced people and first aid learning. The Innovation and Insight directorate looks for new ideas to meet the needs of people in crisis which are tested, delivered and replicable to a high standard. Our ambition is to work across the entire spectrum of innovation from the incremental, right through to the transformational; understanding the demand for services both now and in the future and evidencing where change is needed.

The Business Intelligence Team analyse historic internal information about UK service delivery to understand what we're doing well, and what the future of the organisation could look like. Our team of 6 support the UK Operations directorate with data extractions, reports, and dashboards, and provide advice and guidance on interpreting and presenting service data. Our aim is for the British Red Cross to become an organisation where everyone appreciates the value of data, can use data to make intelligent business decisions, and can access data whenever they need it.

Who we're looking for

The successful candidate will be a technical expert in their field, with advanced knowledge of visualisation tools (particularly Tableau/ Power BI), SQL and KPI reporting approaches. You will be a capable people manager, with the ability to lead, motivate and develop a skilled team. Analytical skills (including being confident working with a wide range of data and being able to apply appropriate analytical techniques) are essential in this role.

We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who are strong influencers, with excellent relationship building skills and who can promote a community of analysis within the organisation. You'll be skilled in communicating complex technical issues to a range of non-specialist audiences, and will have an ability to translate business problems into technical solutions.

Closing date for applications is 23:59 on 10th December 2018

Interviews will take place in London on 19th December 2018

We offer a wide range of staff benefits, these include:

  • 36 days holiday (including Bank Holidays)
  • Option to buy an extra 5 days annual leave
  • Up to 6% contributory pension
  • Flexible working policy
