Purpose of Role: To design and detail mechanical solutions in line with Product Design Specifications and relevant standards, complete cable drawings, compiling BoM’s, assist with prototype build tasks and documenting these and design information for formal release to manufacture. Support the Production, Sales and TEMPEST teams as products progress through all stages of the development and production processes Main Responsibilities – Duties · Create mechanical design solutions to comply with the Product Design Specification and budgetary targets. · Create cable drawings. · Create and manage Product, Cable & PCB BOM’s. · Produce accurate product build documentation by compiling annotated pictorial assembly steps. · Support prototype builds programs. · Assist with validation testing of developed products. · Liaise with Production department to achieve continuous product improvement. · Actively support the company Document Release and Engineering Change Request procedures. · Ensure work is carried out in accordance with company, customer and BS standards. · Produce concept renders in support of quotations for sales. · Continuous Improvement, You will have responsibility to make suggestions on Continuous Improvement within the business; expectations are around 4 a year. Education and Previous Experience · HNC in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years’ experience. · Experience in designing and drafting, to BS8888, using 3D and 2D CAD tools, preferably Solidworks & AutoCAD but other packages would be considered. · A strong understanding of manufacturing processes and their associated cost drivers. · Experience designing electro-mechanical enclosures, sheet metal and machined components. · An appreciation of modern rapid prototyping techniques. · An appreciation of documented quality standards and systems under ISO:9001:2008. · Basic knowledge of CorelDRAW and Photoshop. · Good communication skills. · Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office Suite in particular Word, Excel and Powerpoint. · Knowledge of Communications, Computer, Server and Client IT equipment. · Must have good attention to detail to produce clear and concise drawings and design documentation with a “right first time” attitude. · Basic understanding of UK TEMPEST standards, E.g. SDIP55, SDIP 27 & SDIP 29. · Basic understanding of UK & US Military EMC and Environmental Test Standards, E.G. Mil Stan 810, 461, Def Stan 00-35 & Def Stan 59-411.
