Our client is a privately owned and ambitious SME that designs and manufactures products for sale through retailers as well as e-commerce channels. The business strategy is to drive revenue from its current £10m to £28m over the next 3 years and as part of this the organisation wishes to recruit a Director of Operations and Logistics.

The product is designed in the UK and manufactured in China currently through a third party. The company has enjoyed continued success in winning licenses to create physical products based on the digital designs, all of which are designed in house leading for an opportunity to develop products with the company’s own IP.

The Director of Operations and Logistics will play a key part in realising this increase in revenue and will be accountable for working as part of the board to put together the strategic plan and ensure the operational delivery of that plan. Critical impact areas are detailed below:

  • Responsibility for ensuring the process and timings from design, to manufacture and subsequent delivery both direct to consumer and to retail are well planned and managed to exceed customer expectation.
  • Accountability for forging productive relationships with factory owners in China which will likely lead to huge savings as the amount shipped more than triples in line with the strategy to expand the brands and product range.
  • Responsibility for the management of the full supply chain
  • Accountable for, building confidence and trust that products are manufactured, shipped and delivered on time and to budget.
  • Optimisation of working capital ensuring deliveries are made to order on time with high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Building a high quality working relationship with key stakeholders, including presenting board level information and reports suitable for a business that may wish to look at funding options including PE in the future
  • Provide effective leadership to Operations, managing and growing a diverse team and creating a high performing team culture.

The appointee will have a successful track record across Operations and Supply Chain, crucially with experience of dealing within the Chinese market and ideally with experience of international wholesale and distribution in a customer focused environment. The ability to speak Chinese would be an advantage but not essential. You should be able to think strategically with the ability to deliver a 3 year plan that will support the business in achieving its growth ambitions whilst being appreciating the “sleeves rolled up” nature of involvement that comes with a business of this size.

You must demonstrate an excitement and willingness to lead in an SME that is on the verge of tremendous growth whilst appreciating the approach that comes from joining such a young company.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an already successful company with ambitious and realistic growth plans.
