Teacher of Geography (Maternity)

Required for April 2019

MPS/UPS equivalent

We are excited to advertise the position of Geography Teacher (maternity) for April 2019.

As well as being a suitably qualified teacher with excellent subject knowledge and pedagogy; the ideal candidate will be emotionally intelligent, highly motivated and will be willing to take measured risks to deliver an exciting and engaging curriculum that develops students’ thinking skills, progress and aspirations.

Wrotham School is a highly successful school that boasts outstanding behaviour and supportive parents. Visitors to our school always comment on the calm and purposeful atmosphere they observe in our classrooms and communal areas. Our outstanding results are testament to the strength of our staff team and the hard work of our students.

We are a comprehensive school and students make outstanding progress, our recent Ofsted report (June 2018) recognises the work we do as outstanding and makes reference to our supportive atmosphere and positive working environment. Our students achieve some of the highest progress and attainment scores in Kent and we are proud of our deeply embedded culture of high expectations.

As we continue to raise the aspirations of our students we are confident that our school will continue to make progress to and beyond our target of being the most successful, non- selective, non-fee paying school in Kent.

We offer our staff competitive pay, with the opportunity to receive additional pay progression for outstanding performance, in a school that has found success outside of the large academy chains. We are a progressive and innovative school that provides a positive and productive place to work for teachers of all experience levels.

We offer a research based CPD programme that offers a flexible and personalized approach to professional development. We have recently made significant changes to reduce teacher workload and encourage a strong culture of work life balance.

Wrotham is a small village in the heart of Kent, surrounded by a scenic rural landscape and beautiful countryside with excellent (5 minute) access from the A20/M20 and close proximity to the A2/M2/M25/M26. Journey by road from nearby Bromley/ Dartford/ Bexley/ Orpington varies from 15-30 minutes. The local mainline station is a 10 minute walk from the school and is on the direct commuter line to Victoria Station in central London; this line includes stops at Bromley South. Wrotham is part of the Sevenoaks commuter belt and sits just outside of South East London. Recent house prices in Wrotham (April 2015) are typically 200,000-230,000 for a 2-3 bedroom property and are significantly lower than comparable properties in nearby South/ South East London postcodes, rental properties follow a similar pattern. This makes Wrotham and the surrounding areas an ideal place to live and work, particularly for first time buyers and those facing the challenge of rising house prices in London and its suburbs.

To apply please complete the application form available on our website, and write a letter of application of no more than two sides of A4 explaining how your skills, experience and aspirations meet the requirements of this role.

Wrotham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts are subject to an enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and check against the ISA Barred List for children.

If you would like to discuss the post with the Headteacher or arrange a visit to the school please contact Rachel Martin, the Executive Headteacher’s PA on 01732 884207.

Interviews: An interview will be organised on application.
