What’s the opportunity? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Communications Network Engineer to join a rapidly expanding part of MBDA, the Weapon Systems Communications Group. You will play a key role in the integration of the communications network aspects of our Weapon Systems both during the development phase, before delivery to the customer, and during the platform / customer network integration phases. The role will be to ensure correct operation of the network(s) prior to full system integration and acceptance. This unique role in the company will be absolutely key in delivering our commitments to our customers by assuring correct operation of the communications network, thereby speeding up the weapon system integration and set to work processes. We are looking for a highly capable and enthusiastic engineer to lead this task and build the capability in MBDA. What will you be doing? Reporting to the Head of the Weapon System Communications Group, the candidate will be responsible for the successful network integration of sub-systems into weapon systems, in house during the development and qualification phases, and the integration of those weapon systems into our customer's platforms and networks during commissioning, test and acceptance. The candidate will develop, lead and manage a team of suitably qualified communications / network engineers (the network support team) to deliver a service for all relevant MBDA projects. This could be in UK or other countries around the world. In this role the candidate will act as the key point of contact for the Project team on resolving issues associated with communications and network integration. Reporting to the Weapon System Communications Group, you will be responsible for providing a network diagnostic capability for a range of network technologies using a range of different diagnostic / analysis tools. Essential: Communications network practitioner experienced across all layers of the OSI model. Experience of supporting wired and wireless networks, firewall administration, designing and implementing LAN / WAN architectures and experience of network implementation and commissioning. Significant experience in investigation of network issues, including fault finding, diagnosing root cause of issues and determining appropriate resolution of identified issues. Excellent analytical and report writing skills with experience of researching, evaluating and recommending solutions to issues. Understanding of Communication security architectures and equipment. You will have a proven understanding and awareness of communication protocols, specifically routing and security related protocols. Experience with network equipment from multiple vendors and the automation of tasks using scripting tools would be advantageous. Experience of managing small teams in a technical and engineering development environment. Candidates should be organised, enthusiastic, pro-active and motivated self-starters. As a team member you will be required to establish and demonstrate positive relationships with the Customer and User communities. An ability to adapt to changing priorities, programme needs and tasks. Good interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills – verbal and written Relevant Engineering or Science based Degree (or equivalent). Desirable CCNA Routers & Switches / CCNA Sec (preferably CCNP) ITIL best practice Experienced in a variety of interfaces and protocols (Ethernet, 1553, 1394, DDS) Ability to plan, control and deliver projects or work packages. Supporting the delivery of solutions to meet the customer’s requirements and programme. Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development.
