Trainee Finance Manager
Role Summary: The Trainee Finance Manager offers an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate with some relevant work experience. The successful candidate will gain a range of skills and experience within the Legal Services specialism whilst having the opportunity to participate in the development of a long established and progressive firm. Duties will include: creating budgets and cash flow forecasts, analysing firm and practitioner performance, identifying and implementing remedial action as required, working alongside the accounts team on daily tasks, and monitoring compliance to the Solicitor Accounts Rules. Specific duties will include: Ensuring the Practice maintains high levels of performance in profitability and liquidity and the creation of a strong asset position. Compile end of month reports, and others on request, for the Practice’s Accountants. Produce specific Partner reports at set times throughout the month and when requested. Interpret key financial reports (Profit and Loss) and conduct investigations on request. Create reports for Fee Earner Monthly Financial Review meetings and organise appointments. Email completed reports to each Fee Earner and undertake agreed Work in Progress write offs. Complete the Credit Control process as part of the Fee Earner Monthly Financial Review Meeting. Monitor cash flow on a weekly basis and against the Cashflow Forecast. Identify and organise borrowing as required subject to Partner approval. Review, and where necessary, create Financial Management Policies subject to Partner approval. Train new starters and existing staff on the firm’s Financial Management Policies and Procedures. Create an annual budget, including Fee Earner Targets, for Partner approval. Update all financial systems with the agreed budget and targets. Manage expenditure to gradually decline and remain within budget on a monthly basis. Manage client accounts to ensure they are held securely in instant access accounts. Complete Payroll each month and answer all staff/Manager enquiries. Maintain records for the firms COFA of any SAR Breach and take remedial steps as required. Experience required: Experience of Microsoft Office. Achieved GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above. Achieved a 2.2 grade or above in an undergraduate business degree. Strong Excel skills i.e. formula writing as a minimum. Numerate. Commercial awareness. Attention to detail. Interpretation and analysis skills. Written and verbal communication skills. A willingness to learn and develop. Self-motivated and hardworking. Integrate within a team. Desired Experience in an Accounts role. Experience of working with Solicitors Accounts Rules. Experience working within a regulated environment. Working towards an accounts qualification (i.e. CIMA or AAT). Computer literacy. Organisational skills.
