Manufacturing Engineer (Machining)

A leading manufacturer of safety critical components, is looking to recruit a Manufacturing Engineer to join their established team.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a company which is experiencing growth and can offer further training & development.

Purpose of Role:

Reporting to the Operations Manager you will support Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement

activities within the plant.

You will program CNC Machines in order to produce parts to drawings / quality specifications in a

safe & efficient manner.

As Manufacturing Engineer you will be tasked in ensuring cost accuracy through accurate

documentation of manufacturing processes and identify cost reduction opportunities.

Skills & Experience

* Experience in a similar role within a machining environment
* Capable of supervising/mentoring a small team when required
* CNC program writing & editing experience using FANUC controls
* Experience of working with large complex castings
* Knowledge & experience of lean tools and techniques (5s, SMED, Kaizen & Kanban)
* Experience in design of tooling & fixtures


Reporting to the Operations Manager on a day to day basis the key roles & responsibilities are:

· Create CNC programs using Fanuc & Tosnuc controls

· Design fixtures & specialist tooling to support the in house machining of parts

· Plan insourcing project activities and report progress to the Operations Manager through KPI’s &

project trackers

· Specify & source any tooling required to machine components as efficiently as possible

· Review & continuously improve production processes to achieve cost reductions, enhance process

reliability and improve the quality and/or safety of specific operations through value engineering &

lean activities

· Produce and maintain applicable documentation such as SOP’s & Routings for machining parts using


· Capture & analyse direct labour cost variances and take corrective actions to improve cost accuracy

· Develop and implement plans for improved material flow & increased inventory control

· Participate in regular meetings and toolbox briefings on the shop floor.

· Liaise with Production & Procurement departments for the purchase of primary & consumable tooling.

· Suggest capital expenditure requirements & produce supporting justifications where required.

· Action Engineering change notifications & requests.

· Assist with day-to-day problem resolution for Machining, Assembly, Test & Painting activities
