RESPITE SUPPORT THERAPISTS JOB DESCRIPTION We are a small team of ABA trained professionals and we are seeking some assistance. We are looking for two individuals to carry out the role of “Respite Support Therapists” to work with a young man with Autism, learning disabilities and complex behaviours, to support his mum and siblings (aged 18 and 21) when he is at home. (He has therapy Monday to Friday between 9 am and 4.30 pm and presently spends time with his dad on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings). We are based in Wilmslow, Manchester. We are committed to providing the best possible care and support for this young man and within this role you will be expected to assist and support the individual’s mum and family and to cooperate and liaise with his existing team where necessary. This role will include assisting in teaching aspects of daily living skills, carrying out generalisation programs such as cooking and cleaning, and supporting activities outside of the family home to enable this young man to continue to be a part of the community during evenings, weekends and holidays. Where necessary, you will be supported by a team of ABA Registered Behavioural Technicians, a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst and family members. As part of the whole team, you will work to enhance the quality of life of the individual, to change and understand behaviour, and to achieve the person centred goals. Within the Respite Support Therapist role, you will: • Support the family to carry out tasks with the individual within his home and community during weekends, evenings and holidays. • To act as main respite carer within the family home in the absence of the individual’s mother and/or other family members. • To promote and maintain the health and well-being of the young man. • To empower him to make choices and help him build and maintain relationships with his family and the community. • You will help him to maintain current interests and attend exciting activities. • You will assist with everyday living – including minor aspects of personal care and health needs. • Actively encourage the individual’s independence. • The role will include possible exposure to physically and verbally challenging behaviour from the individual from time to time. • Provide consistent support, maintain and follow guidelines and procedures closely in order to ensure the safety of the young man and the public. • To work towards and achieve a Registered Behavioural Technician qualification/certification with the BCBA. About You We would love to hear from you if you have experience of implementing Positive Behaviour Support interventions or have experience in working with adults with Autism, learning disabilities and/or challenging behaviour. You must be a self-motivated, compassionate, organised individual, willing to learn an educational method based on positive reinforcement (Applied Behaviour Analysis). You must demonstrate reliability and dependability. A full clean UK driving license is essential for this role. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of adults at risk and therefore all our offers of employment are subject to an enhanced DBS check, proof of eligibility to work in the UK and two satisfactory references. Package  Fixed Term Contract (12 months)  Competitive Salary  Working hours will be varied but likely to be around 23.5 hours per week – flexibility will be required to work around the individual’s needs. Shifts may include: • 8:30 am to 2 pm Saturday and Sunday • 7.30 pm to 12 am Saturday evening • 5 pm to 9 pm Monday and Friday evenings  Financial support for Professional RBT qualification  Full internal training programme delivered by our team  Statutory Holidays  Pension fund
