This appointment is a superb opportunity for a well-qualified, dynamic teacher of Science to provide high quality teaching of the Science curriculum through the school. To inspire children to love Science, explore the subject and to understand the importance of Science in our daily lives. The successful candidate will be teaching all aspects of Science provision leading up to Common Entrance and Scholarship. Purpose of the Role: To teach Science to Year 5 to Year 8 pupils To play a full part in the life of the school To work with the Head of Science to ensure a high quality learning experience for pupils Key Responsibilities: Carry out teaching duties in accordance with the school's schemes of work Coordinate with the Director of Learning Development to ensure pupils progress Work with G & T Coordinators to provide pupils with opportunities for extension and enrichment, and for scholarship preparation Demonstrate good practice in the teaching areas of responsibility Monitor teaching and learning activities in the classroom, take responsibility for a classroom and ensure that it remains a facility conducive to high quality education. Identify and teach study skills that will develop pupils' ability to work independently Prepare planning documentation, as required, in keeping with departmental schemes and policies The ideal candidate will have/ be: Qualified teacher status Evidence of continued professional development Outstanding experience of teaching in a relevant environment Awareness of current developments in education and their implications for learners and teachers Understanding of effective strategies for teaching, learning, assessment and evaluation An interest in how pupils learning can be extended at all levels Strong understanding of differentiation in a Science setting Understand characteristics of high achievement and their evaluation; the target setting process; effective use of data to improve learning Understanding of the process of performance management Understand the effective planning of the curriculum, including assessment for learning, recording and reporting to parents Experience and understanding of planning Able to inspire children The ability to establish and maintain good relationships with children, parents and colleagues Able to motivate and support staff with a willingness to share knowledge, ideas and expertise Positive, enthusiastic and motivated approach Competent in the use of IT Willingness to take responsibility and to work both alone and as part of a team A suitable person to work with the children under the terms of the Children Act and other relevant legislation The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all of our staff to share this commitment.
