Planning Enforcement Officer

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Council
11 Nov 2018
16 Nov 2018
Contract Type
Full Time
Ref: BMS00144

37 hpw, part time or job share may be considered.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced officer to join our busy, progressive team. You will have a relevant degree or certificate in planning enforcement and be able to demonstrate up-to-date and detailed knowledge and experience of planning enforcement. However, this is a 'career grade' post and so we would also welcome applications from candidates with experience of the general principles of criminal law and enforcement practice and who are able to apply those skills to a new area of work.

You will have a strong work ethic, possess good communication and report writing skills, and will be keen and ambitious. You will need to be able to work well independently and as part of the team. Excellent customer service skills will also be required.

You will be working on a busy case load and will be tasked with carrying out inspections and assessing developments to ascertain breaches of planning legislation. In addition, you will need to have the ability to advise customers of the appropriate course of action to resolve a breach and, when necessary, draft notices, collect evidence and prepare legal proceedings for action against offenders.

You will be required to make site visits in a large rural area and so access to personal transport and a valid driving licence will be necessary.

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are committed to agile and flexible working practices (subject to business need). We believe that work is something we do and not somewhere we go; we want our staff to feel enabled and empowered to fully embrace these opportunities.

Based at our modern and conveniently located office accommodation, we can offer great opportunities for training and development and we will give you all the support you need. Learning and development opportunities are also available.

We offer flexible working options, a generous leave entitlement, access to the Suffolk Green Travel Plan, discount scheme and a pension scheme.

* career graded, plus essential car user allowance.
