Come and join us at Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Not only is it a great place to work; it's also a wonderful place to live. The town has great transport links, a bustling quay and some of the best beaches in England. You’ll also have easy access to the Dorset countryside, renowned for its areas of outstanding natural beauty and the spectacular Jurassic Coast, ideal for sports and outdoor activities.

Poole Hospital is one of the largest employers in the region and highly regarded across the NHS, consistently featuring within the top twenty per cent in both national patient and staff satisfaction surveys. We pride ourselves on positive team work, professional development and support staff to reach their fullest potential. All of this is underpinned by our unique philosophy, The Poole Approach, which pledges that we will strive at all times to provide friendly, professional, person-centred care with dignity and respect for all.

This is an exciting time for our staff, following a recent review of healthcare services in Dorset which will see major changes to the way healthcare is provided. As one of the two acute NHS providers in the east of the county, our services will be closely linked to those provided at the Royal Bournemouth & Christchurch Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We’re working in close collaboration to deliver excellent emergency and planned care over the two sites, for the people of east Dorset.

This is an exciting time to join the pathology team in Dorset. We are currently making great progress with our vision to create a first class integrated pathology service for Dorset.

The ‘One Dorset Pathology’ service for Poole Hospital, Dorset County Hospital and The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals will provide clinicians, patients and carers with a consistent and high standard of service across the area and maximise efficiency in the use of resources.

Staff will be able to develop to their full potential and substantial investment has been agreed, offering opportunities for service development and state-of-the-art modernisation.

Applications are invited for a Consultant in Medical Microbiology within Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, based in the microbiology laboratory. This is a replacement post, aimed at enhancing the clinical microbiology service. It is expected that in time the candidate may work across the three hospitals as part of the wider One Dorset Pathology team.

The Microbiology Department deals with a wide range of specialties and the successful applicant will work within an established multi-disciplinary team, including an active Infection Prevention and Control Team, will report on the full range of medical microbiology and contribute to the infection prevention and control programme.

Poole and surrounding East Dorset is a very attractive part of UK in which to live and work and offers an excellent quality of life.

The post is based on a 10 PA contract. Qualifications required are FRCPath or equivalent, full GMC registration, and inclusion on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council in Medical Microbiology or within six months of CCT at interview date.
