It’s an exciting time to join us: KMPT has been rated Outstanding for Caring and Good overall in our most recent CQC inspection in January 2017!

The Psychological Therapies Team would like to invite applications to join an established psychological therapies team providing psychological assessment and intervention to mentally disordered offenders in Kent. You will be based at the Trevor Gibbens Unit Maidstone, a 65 bedded medium secure unit for men and women. The psychological service provides a range of assessments and interventions including a group programme consisting of sex offender treatment, fire setting intervention, substance misuse and others. You will also be joining a Trust-wide psychology service that offers a diverse range of specialisms and psychological approaches. The role will be primarily clinical although it is hoped that the successful applicant will actively pursue research and evaluation within the forensic field and contribute to the provision of supervision and training to other psychologists and professions. We have an active partnership with Kent University with many research opportunities. Clinical activities will involve inpatient and outpatient work. This will include the provision of both specialist psychology assessment and intervention to a range of mentally disordered offenders. There are opportunities to develop specialist skills in a number of areas such as fire setting, sex offenders and personality disorders.

The KFPS, based in Maidstone and Dartford, specialises in the assessment and treatment of mentally disordered offenders, serving the county of Kent and a population of approximately 1.5 million. The service offers both an inpatient facility, and outpatient assessment and intervention. There is also a Forensic Learning Disability In-patient facility and a male Low Secure Unit. The service works closely with local Probation, Social Services, Special Hospitals, the Courts and local NHS services. The service has an excellent multidisciplinary ethos, enjoying good working relationships as demonstrated by the high level of morale among staff. CPD and supervision are supported and valued in the Trust. Although a twelve month contract in the first instance there may be permanent opportunities over the next twelve months.

If your application is successful, you will be notified by e-mail. Therefore, please ensure that you regularly check your NHS jobs account.
