We are currently seeking an Assistant Psychologist to join us our team. This role will be working Monday to Friday, 37.5hrs per week.

Cygnet Hospital Stevenage is an 87 bedded hospital which offers a range of secure mental health services for men and women in a purpose-built therapeutic environment where the focus is on maximising positive outcomes and recovery. A range of therapies supports the care pathway towards independent living.

The service provides a comprehensive psychological assessment and therapy programme across its four secure wards. Our psychologists are trained in a variety of psychological assessments and therapeutic models, allowing them to offer a personalised package of assessment and therapies to service users.

The successful candidate will join the established Psychology department comprised of a Clinical Psychologist, Principal Forensic Psychologists, a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Head of Therapies, as well as Assistant Psychologists and Psychology Students/Trainees.

The Opportunity

To support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients across the service who present with a variety of mental health conditions. You will provide psychological assessment, formulations, interventions and evaluation under the supervision of a Qualified Psychologist.

Psychological assessments of clients will include; psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, and others involved in their care - all under the supervision of a Qualified Psychologist.

To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work as relevant, to contribute to service development and best practice.

To maintain a database of psychology treatment needs of all patients and update waiting lists accordingly. You will also deliver individual interventions when appropriate and supervise Honorary / Voluntary Assistant Psychologists at the Hospital.

Are you the successful candidate we are looking for?

• A good level (2:1 or above) BPS (British Psychological Society) Accredited Undergraduate Degree in Psychology (or equivalent)
• Some experience within the healthcare sector, ideally within mental health and/or a forensic setting
• A Psychology Masters Qualification (or equivalent) is desirable
• Previous experience in a paid/voluntary Assistant Psychologist role is desirable
• A passion for learning and working as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Good communication skills
