An exciting opportunity to lead a major trade association in the care at home sector.

The client is a successful and highly-regarded association with over 20 staff, turnover of £2m and over 2000 members. The current CEO retires in Spring 2019. The office is in Surrey and this is a national role, including the devolved administrations.

Key responsibilities will be:
• Maintaining a strong membership focus (note members are highly diverse in size)
• With the Chair and Board developing and delivering strategic plans
• Leadership and management of the staff team
• External representation of the organisation and sector
• The overall financial health of the organisation

The ideal candidate will have:

• Ability to develop and implement strategic plans, including delivering change
• Ability to influence and develop trusted relationships with government and diverse stakeholders
• Highly developed communications skills
• Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills
• Knowledge and understanding of the social care sector
• Experience of running a not-for-profit organisation and appreciation of the particular needs of a professional membership body
• A commercial member orientation, used to delivering and demonstrating value for money
• Understanding of the structure of national and local government and how to engage them constructively
• Experience of conveying complex messages clearly
• Experience of encouraging open communications throughout an organisation and of resolving conflicts at a strategic level
• Experience of representing an organisation externally
• A degree, and preferably a management qualification

The appointment comes at a particularly important time for the sector given the well-publicised demand and supply pressures on social care: an ageing population, financial stringencies and the difficulty of attracting and retaining staff. The association is needed more than ever.
