Here at Southend University Hospital we strive to provide high quality care for every patient, every time.

We would be nothing without our staff. So it goes without saying that when it comes to recruiting new team members, we're looking for the best. We encourage staff to be innovative, to challenge the 'as is' and to always put patients first.

We want staff who will live our trust values every day.

Care with compassion, Working together, Professional and accountable

This is an exciting time to join us. The three NHS trusts that currently run Broomfield, Southend and Basildon hospitals are planning to become a new single NHS organisation by mid-2019.

All three hospitals will continue to provide the services our patients use the most. These include outpatient appointments, children’s services and day-case surgery. All three hospitals will continue to provide 24/7 A&E and maternity services.

By working as one team we will provide the same high standard of care and services for all of our 1.2m local residents. Using the same equipment, processes and IT systems means services will run more smoothly. Single leadership, standards and new structures will speed up decision making. Combined corporate services will reduce duplication and cut running costs. This means more money for front-line services and faster improvements.

Attracting new talent is key to our future and the scale of our organisation will give far more career, training and development opportunities for all our staff.

This is an innovative job opportunity to experience 3 Acute Medical Wards with an option to permanently work in your preferred area after successfully completing the 18 months rotation.

Join their friendly and dynamic teams to help deliver excellent care.

The Cardiology Unit. which has recently been refurbished, offers the opportunity to learn and expand your knowledge in this field of expertise. The unit is being completely refurbished and will consist of 29 beds, 11 acute admission beds, (monitored) and 8 acute monitored step down beds. There will be opportunities to experience the cardiac and medical day stay unit, (including procedures), and also experience the cardiology catheter lab procedures and shadow the cardiac arrest team during emergency calls.

The Respiratory unit consists of two wards with a total of 44 beds including a 12-bedded respiratory high dependency unit (ARCU) and 12 acute stepdown beds. They look after patients with conditions such as COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), asthma, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer along with other respiratory disorders.

The Acute Stroke unit consists of 2 wards, currently with a total of 40 beds, 12 acute beds to closely monitor patients following a stroke, patients post clot retrieval and patients who are at risk of having a stroke. The stepdown beds cater for the recovery and rehabilitation of patients. There will be opportunities to work alongside the acute stroke nurses who not only support the work on the unit but attend Accident and Emergency to assess and carry out the thrombolysis.

Following completion of the 18 month rotation the candidate will have the option to continue their career on one of the 3 wards subject to completion of the probation period and vacancies at that time.
