The role as a Learning Mentor will be to:

* Provide Educational support within the mainstream setting to a designated cohort of pupils working on a 12-weekly revolving programme
* Identify and address the social and emotional needs of the students.
* Have responsibility for the health and safety of the students.
* Maintain up to date records of the outreach support plan and attendance to share these with the Head of Outreach and other persons involved in a timely fashion.
* Encourage students to be actively involved in the learning process and in reviewing their own performance

We are ideally looking for previous experience of working within mainstream or vocational settings. In addition, the successful Learning or Pastoral Mentor will have high emotional intelligence, a resilience when working under pressure, be a good team player who is able to also work independently, a knowledge of a range of additional educational needs that may affect the emotional welfare and behaviour of students and relevant interventions to manage this, and of course a sense of humour!!

This is a successful behaviour support provision based in Tunbridge Wells which supports secondary schools in the West Kent area. The school supports vulnerable young people across KS3 and 4 who find mainstream education a challenge, providing bespoke solutions and an inclusive education. Ofsted (2014) stated “Students’ behaviour in and around the school and at alternative provisions sites is good. The students gain in confidence at the school and their attitudes improve because of their rekindled interest in learning”

* Free CPD courses for SEN Teaching Assistants
