QA Release and Portfolio Manager, Lovely Blue Chip Company in the Brighton Area, Up to £61,000 + Strong Bonus (Up to 45%), Pension at 15%, Agile working, Healthcare, 33 days holiday etc


The responsibilities of the QA, Release and Portfolio Manager is to own the Release Management lifecycle which includes ensuring high standards are kept in the Release function, this includes scheduling, co-ordinating and management of releases across a number of business critical applications. Releases can be inclusive of application updates, operating system patches, security improvements, hardware upgrades and change projects

Duties Include:

Responsible for implementing and managing releases processes for code through both testing and production environments

Takes ownership of the management of the pre-production environments and the promotional model.

Coordinate releases to ensure that the integrity of the live environment is protected and that the correct components are released.

Design release processes from build, through test and defect fixing, to the release of new or changed software

Monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of the Release management process across the organisation, and make recommendations for improvement.

Ensuring that all IT teams follow the release management process for all releases

Maintain quality checks on releases and record those that directly or indirectly cause support Incidents Failure to successfully manage releases or delays to releases can impact the business and its clients

Ensure that relevant supporting documentation is accurately maintained

Work collaboratively with all participants in software development projects (in particular developers and testers)

Work with IT management to improve the software engineering practices associated with continuously building, deploying and updating software and environments

Work with the teams under the Heads of Solution Engineering and the Technology & Digital Services to support the development and live running of our platforms

Desirable Skills/Education:

A Technology or science degree

ITIL or Prince Foundation qualification


Knowledge of continuous integration and deployment tools in a DevOps environment such as Jenkins, Puppet, Octopus, TeamCity etc

Knowledge of repositories, code controls and development tools such as JIRA, Confluence and similar tools

Must demonstrate the ability to understand the approaches to deployment automation on both cloud-based infrastructure and bare-metal servers.

An understanding of or have worked with Cloud technologies. Azure preferred

Must have a demonstrable track record of organizing and tracking progress of multiple projects across the software development lifecycle.

Soft Skills:

Ability to work with and influence others across the internal technology teams

Ability to discuss with varying grades of staff topics such as project timelines, contingency plans, environment budgets and resource allocations.

Ability to build relationships with suppliers and critically assess capabilities

Strong communication skills

Ability to work with customers to prioritise release contents

Advanced knowledge of software development lifecycle
