We are currently recruiting for a Systems Administrator to work in the Plymouth region, working for a prestigious national client. You will be part of a large central-based IT team, working Monday-Friday 8am-4.30pm on a Permanent basis. Benefits include competitive salary, pension scheme, 26 days holiday pay plus bank holidays and free parking.

This role for a Systems Administrator will involve Linux/UNIX systems administration. The role also entails administration of VMware ESXi, Enterprise Storage, physical server infrastructure and networking. The successful candidate will also be exposed to Oracle Databases, Active Directory, Firewalls and TCP/IP Network Administration.

The following skills and qualifications would be beneficial, although not essential:-

Editing text files using Vim/Emacs style editors
Unix core administrative skills: Creating user accounts and resetting passwords. Filesystem management and commands such as cp, grep, mv and tar. Scheduling jobs through cron and interpreting standard log files.
An understanding of SSH and its configuration
Red Hat style package management.
Bash scripting or core programming skills in languages such as Perl, Python or PHP.
An understanding of Internet protocols and Web technologies
An appreciation of Cybersecurity and associated tools.
A Higher Level qualification in a relevant subject (Computer Science / IT)

Suitable candidates for the Systems Administrator role may have the following industry experience or have worked in the following job roles:

- Consulting, Information, Engineering, Legal, Real Estate, Utilities, Construction

- IT Administrator, IT Executive, Systems administrator, Support administrator, Service administrator, Systems specialist

You should be a team player who is able to make decisions using your own initiative to solve a range of IT related challenges.

As a member of the Unix team, you will be expected to participate in an Out of Hours standby working arrangement and may be required to work overtime.

As the team supports multiple sites, a driving licence is required.

The salary for this role as Systems Administrator ranges from £43,000pa
