We are recruiting for a Trade Marks Paralegal for our client based in Canary Wharf. This role is to start immediately for 3 months (no notice period). You must have an ITMA qualification, and worked within Trade Marks in-house or private practice. Please note this is not a work experience/intern role, we are only looking at candidates who have previous experience in this area and can demonstrate this on their CV.
The successful candidate will support a group of attorneys in the acquisition and maintenance of trade mark and design registrations. The role is responsible for the trade mark administration and formalities activities and the role works with the trade mark attorneys globally, outside counsel and foreign associates.
Responsibilities
* Preparation of basic legal documents, knowledge of trade mark law and practice in key countries.
* Manage domestic, international and foreign trade mark administration and formalities activities (i.e., trade mark searching, filing, prosecution, and maintenance)in support of intellectual property needs – filing of trade mark applications and filing of design applications and registered design, copyright registration
* Interact with UK Intellectual Property Office, European Union Intellectual Property Office, World Intellectual Property Office) and other foreign trade mark registries offices with respect to administrative matters
* Input data and develop reports, using organisation’s and custom Trade Mark electronic resources such as WebTMs, BIGS, Saegis and Serion
* Manage funds through deposit account online for IP registries, collaborate with finance to log costs in accordance with activity.
* Prepare legal documents compliant with legal requirements for each jurisdiction and for trade mark practice
* Manage trade mark attorney dockets and maintain the data integrity of the trade mark portfolio management database.
* To provide legal expertise and technical recommendations in support of large acquisitions/ divestments and also in the acquisition of trade marks.
* Arrange timely payment for invoices relating to acquisition, enforcement and maintenance of trade mark assets
* Timely collaboration with attorneys, outside counsel foreign associates in relation to resolution of legal issues as many legal submissions are subject to short deadlines.
* Expertise in knowing key legal requirements for many jurisdictions; keeping up to date with legal changes as applicable to trade mark assets.
