Packaging Technologist - Full-Time - Wimbledon, South West London

As a new role for Lidl you will have the exciting opportunity to build and shape a strong packaging strategy to deliver best value packaging solutions and plastic commitments. You will be engaging with almost every area of the business, as well as building powerful relationships externally.
Over the past few years we have built our ambitious sustainability strategy setting out our plans and goals to become a more sustainable business. Within this, our vision is clear, we want to ensure good food is accessible for everyone; food that is good for our customers, our producers and our planet.
In order to help deliver our vision we have developed 'circular motion', our approach to driving circularity of packaging. We want to create a major shift in the way that packaging and plastics are used, to ensure that these resources are recovered and retained, eradicating plastic waste and moving us towards a truly circular system in the long term.
We are now looking for an individual with a real passion for sustainability and specifically technical packaging expertise to help us achieve this.

What will you do?

•Work with suppliers to identify, develop and deliver best value technical packaging solutions, advising the business on cost implications.
•Deliver packaging optimisation projects to realise cost reductions.
•Supporting Buying teams by manage the technical aspect of packaging development activities.
•Conduct regular reviews of our product portfolio to identify packaging opportunities to improve quality and reduce cost.
•Researching future trends in packaging technologies and feeding back to the team in order to help to develop strategy.
•Advise and support potential group buying activities for packaging.
•Act as the direct link between the Buying Team and Lidl's supply chain with regards to packaging development.
•Attend external working groups and engage in industry-wide collaborative programme

What will you need?

•Independent, self starter, ability to drive change
•A comprehensive, technical understanding of flexible and rigid packaging materials and processes is essential
•Experience in food contact material
•Capable of taking technical subjects and explaining them in a way that can be understood by non-technical stakeholders
•Ideally 2 years experience working in a similar role within a food retailer or FMCG market
•Natural at building strong relationships with internal team and with external stakeholders

•Salary negotiable - starting from £30,000 with potential to earn up to £50,750 per annum (subject to experience)
