About Tony Blair Institute for Global Change:

At the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change we are dedicated to making globalisation work for the many, not the few. We do this by helping countries, their people and their governments, address some of the most difficult challenges in the world today – beginning with those where we think we can break new ground, offering leaders new thinking and new approaches. Our staff – over 200 of them, based all over the world – are working on some of the most intractable problems around issues of co-existence, governance, the peace process in the Middle East and renewing the centre.

Focus of the Role:

The Policy Analyst will be part of a team delivering high quality research and analysis to policymakers and other key stakeholders on a range of policy issues, primarily in the security and foreign affairs fields although a specific background in these issues is not required. A key aspect of this role will be preparing a variety of written products for policy-focused audiences. Anyone with the appropriate experience level and a strong familiarity with UK politics and policymaking is encouraged to apply.

Typical duties

Conducting research and drafting written content for a variety of policy-oriented outputs including policy briefings, content for our website, articles, and longer reports
Presenting research findings to policymakers and other key stakeholders as well as internal leaders
Assisting in development of external engagement strategies to amplify the public impact of our research
Building relationships with other actors in the policy space to foster collaboration with like-minded organisations
Representing the team at external events and conferences

What We Look For in Our People:

The successful candidate for the role should be able to display the majority of the following:

Extensive full-time work experience, ideally including the following;
Robust understanding of UK politics and policy making, preferably including experience working for or engaging with Members of Parliament and Whitehall officials
Strong communications skills, ability to draft high quality written materials quickly and without errors
Ability to be flexible, work on multiple projects at once, and get up to speed on new topics quickly
Strong interpersonal skills; an excellent listener who can work productively and diplomatically with a wide array of different people and institutions
Persuasive, highly articulate, and good at presenting ideas and gaining support from individuals and organizations.
Flawless professional English language communications skills, written and oral
Relevant educational experience in political science, policy, economics, or other related fields (Master's degree or equivalent is preferred)
Limited international travel may be required

Values we look for:

COURAGE… because to tackle global challenges, we must innovate and take smart risks
COLLABORATION… because when we work together and with external partners, we can overcome even the largest problems
COMPASSION … because our work is ultimately about improving people’s lives
