The Company

Bookabees is an education start-up for children with a clear purpose at its heart. We provide a children's book subscription service that creates a engaging and personalised experience around reading.

The Guardian called us "a clever book club" and The Daily Mail said we can "get any child excited about reading".

Most importantly our members love us and we are continuing to grow quickly!

We are based in London Bridge.

The role

We are seeking a Junior Developer or Technologist to join the Bookabees Tech team for an immediate start. The successful individual will play a key part in the shaping the technology and infrastructure of the Bookabees brand during a period of growth and success.

By working closely alongside the CTO and his team, the Junior Developer’s key responsibilities will be:
- Running the operational systems like helpdesk, email, Dev opps, web servers and databases.
- Keeping the site and apps live 24/7.
- Pushing the Bookabees product forward, balancing enhancing existing features with exciting new features.
- Keeping our awesome customers data safe and secure.
- Using AI to help discover the best books for our subscribers.

The team

The candidate will compliment a highly-experienced, successful leadership team, who have a abundance of finance, technical, marketing and creative skills, as well as some big blue-chip experience under their belts.

You will also be working very closely with the rest of the Bookabees team to support operational activities involving user data/emails and other technical support.

We are a very experienced team and take your personal development as a key priority. You will gain exposure and experience to enterprise grade technologies of both development and IT operations processes within the web, backend and mobile spaces.

The candidate:

- Outstanding organisation skills and attention to detail.
- A passionate for tech and developing software.
- Want to work in a fast-paced startup where no day is the same!

Understanding in these areas would be preferable, but not essential (more items the better):

- Databases – a little SQL would be an advantage.
- Commercial development with web, mobile or back end systems. Academic courses would be fine, but any real world experience would be an advantage.
- AI
- CSS/HTML/JS
- React Native
- Advanced excel/google sheets ( not be phased by a vlookup )
- Testing experience

Ideally the candidate will have 1 year of experience or a degree in Computer Science or similar, but a strong CV and interest in the tech space would be considered.
