Head of Food and Landscapes Advocacy – The Role

You will be part of the team committed to tackling critical threats to valuable ecosystems in the UK and globally. Your focus will be to advocate for change to our food system as part of our mission to restore nature. We will look to you to influence government and business and collaborate with other stakeholders to positively influence change to UK farming and the global food system. You will help drive forward new ways for managing land use and the production of sustainable food in the UK and overseas.

We want you to become our credible voice in the food and farming debate. You will work to broaden our area of influence by focusing more on agricultural, seafood and land use policies that recognise the need to restore nature. You will also ensure the UK takes an exemplar approach to sustainable land use at a landscape level, that demonstrates it taking a leadership role at the Convention of Biological Diversity conference in 2020.

As part of our position on sustainable food production you will focus on the conservation and restoration of habitats in our priority places as well as support our climate and land use objectives. This will involve advocating for stronger government and business frameworks on sustainable food (including seafood) and efforts to tackle deforestation as well as building our position as exemplars for the influence of UK policies and other European and international trade partners.

Head of Food and Landscapes Advocacy – Requirements

You must have strong management, communication and advocacy skills and experience of leading highly skilled teams to achieve advocacy impact. This will include experience of linking an environmental narrative to food, farming and land use narratives. You will also have a sound understanding of the UK political landscape.

Expert at building and supporting a diverse team covering seafood, forest policy and UK and international landscapes, you will have a track record of delivering against an annual operating plan as well as of collaborating with colleagues to ensure advocacy communications are integrated with advocacy plans. Good at prioritising you will have strong project management, presentation and interpersonal skills too.

A team player you are also adept at overcoming obstacles and can demonstrate a passion for the natural world and WWF’s core mission. Experience of matrix working would be an advantage.

Who are we?

WWF believes in a future where people and nature thrive.

Best known as the world’s leading conservation body, we’ve seen first-hand how wildlife, the environment and human activity are all interlinked.

That’s why our passion for safeguarding the natural world has to be backed up by other environmental action – tackling the global threat of climate change (through our big global campaigns like Earth Hour) and helping people to change the way they live to ease pressure on natural resources.

WWF is at the heart of global activities in all these areas. We have teams of highly skilled professionals working with governments, businesses and communities here in the UK and around the world.
