Key Responsibilities 1. To provide high quality technical support to visiting companies who have hired the theatre facilities 2. To work with other technical staff in maintaining equipment and facilities to ensure that they are always clean/fit/available for use and comply with H & S requirements 3. To technically support students and staff in lesson work, examinations, cross college productions and activities, under the direction of the Theatre Technical Manager 4. Assist with rigging, focussing and plotting of lights and the operation of lighting for performance examinations and performances which take place within the theatre spaces. 5. To operate sound equipment within the theatre & studio spaces. 6. Provide technical support for the general running of the theatre 7. To implement and comply with the College Health and Safety Policy, following safe working procedures, to maintain a safe environment for students, colleagues and visiting companies 8. Ensure that all technical work is carried out in a professional and safe manner 9. Any other duties required by management and deemed appropriate to the general responsibilities of the post 10. Demonstrate a strong commitment to equality and diversity for students and staff 11. Understand, comply and promote college policies Essential Requirements • Experience and understanding of the needs of a theatre dealing primarily with small scale productions • Previous experience as a technician in a professional theatre environment • To be familiar with and able to rig and focus theatrical lanterns, including generic lanterns and LED’s. • To be able to plot and program stage lighting into a cue stack. • To be able to source and operate sound, including a minimum basic ability to edit soundtracks or SFX. • To have a theatrical background and an understanding of technical requirements and procedures in rehearsals and performance. • To have experience in lighting and sound operation within a performance environment • To have demonstrable willingness to work flexibly: to accept a variety of tasks, and to be willing to work hours within agreed periods of the day according to demand. • To be able to work flexibly according to demand, including evenings for performances and events • To have demonstrable ability to work in situations without direct supervision or direction and to identify tasks requiring attention. • To be able to work as a team member, covering for other Technicians as appropriate • To display a commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. • To display a commitment to meeting the individual needs of each user of the spaces; to respect diversity, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations between those who share a protected characteristic and those who do not. Desirable Requirements • A creative and enthusiastic approach to both theatre and education • A First Aid qualification • Full Driving licence Other Requirements • Willing to work unsociable hours, including evenings and weekends • As this work may involve working with young people all successful candidates will be required to undertake a DBS check
