Solutions Architect / Business Analyst
Solutions Architect Circa £40,000 to £50,000 per annum Stevenage, Hertfordshire The IET are seeking an experienced Solutions Architect to join the IT Product Solutions Team. The IET is one of the world’s largest engineering institutions with over 168,000 members in 150 countries. The IET is working to engineer a better world by inspiring, informing and influencing our members, engineers and technicians, and all those who are touched by, or touch, the work of engineers. The successful candidate will be joining a team working on a flagship programme of work for the organisation. We are working with cross cutting teams, both internal and external and doing some exciting work with emerging technologies such as graph databases, serverless architectures as well as ‘good old fashioned’ SQL. From a product build perspective, we are driving through a programme of change towards cloud native application thinking and ‘infrastructure as code’ approaches. The ideal candidate will have held roles such as a Business Analyst or Senior Technical Analyst before. Previous experience in a Solution Architect role would be advantageous but not essential. The key is having the drive to get stuck in, be proactive and be able work well with other teams, helping to translate ‘business’ to ‘technical’ and visa versa. This is an interesting role with plenty of opportunities to work on a range of projects for the right candidate. Main Duties and Responsibilities (summary) To work with business colleagues to identify opportunities for the application of technology and to frame problems and opportunities To provide exceptional analysis and problem-solving skills to refine a problem and come up with one or more solutions which fit in with the overall systems architecture and standards of the IET To manage the end to end delivery of the solution, or to manage the technical stream of the solution as appropriate To define product scope, requirements and to draft impact assessments To build in depth understanding of relevant areas of IET systems architecture and capabilities To manage internal and external stakeholders To drive improvement in underlying architectures and capabilities of the IET With internal teams define the tasks, resources, and estimated effort to complete a project Person Specification Essential Criteria Excellent problem solver with good analysis, design and testing knowledge Must be comfortable working closely with all levels of staff, Members and senior management Excellent self-motivation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop relationships across professional and organisational boundaries and encourage participation and knowledge sharing with other stakeholders. You will be guiding the business in the appropriate direction. Has a pragmatic ‘get on and get the job done’ attitude Experienced in Agile principles, delivery and working practices (Scrum) Demonstrable track record of end to end problem analysis and solution development Broad technical knowledge (we are a hybrid Microsoft / AWS technical stack), and ability to quickly assimilate new skills/knowledge Experience in managing development projects Practical experience of working with cloud services (AWS &/or Azure for preference) Experience of transitioning to a DevOps approach to delivery Excellent planning and organisational skills. Experience of managing contractors and third-party providers.
