Machine Development Engineer
As in-house recruiters for a large multinational organisation based in Shipley we are looking for an experienced engineer to join our Production Engineering Department. The position will work within a multi-discipline production engineering team and be responsible for the concept design, development and implementation of bespoke machines and equipment, modifications and improvements to meet the needs of our manufacturing facility. Working closely with subcontract manufacturers involved in the build, installation and commissioning process. Key duties would include: Follow the QS9000/IATF16949 procedures with respect to the creation of specifications and requirements. Provide inputs into process documentation (PFMEA/PCP/Operator instructions) in compliance with company's Quality management system. Manage engineering special lot trials and its process changes if approved while following the established company procedures. Interact and manage professionally external suppliers & partners ensuring their performance is monitored and projects are up to schedule Process, review and expedite work orders, modifications, schematics, check sheets, job instructions and calibration records. Manage necessary logistic related tasks in order to supply testing material, equipment to internal/external partner or back to the business Engage in budgeting activities such as ordering equipment, parts and machines and assist in budget control and setting. Also finding optimal & most cost friendly solutions without compromising the process quality and overall project timeline Support technical and financial negotiations with customers and suppliers as required. Generate financial estimates and calculations for internal tooling quotations, carry out feasibility studies with respect to the purchase of new plant and equipment. Calculate the return of investments of new plant, equipment or modifications. Optimise equipment, its toolsets and features in order to achieve high level of flexibility including quick change over systems, equipment versatility, universal tooling etc. Utilise lean manufacturing techniques while introducing new machinery & equipment. Essential Experience and Qualifications Degree level qualification in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline. Excellent interpersonal skills including communication, presentation and motivation. Strong problem solving and analytical skills Relevant experience of machine assembly, function and design in an industrial environment. Solid mechanical full design cycle skills in special purpose, precision capital environment. Preferred Qualifications Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Systems Engineering subject Working hours 8:30 - 5:00 Mon - Thurs 8:30 - 1:30 Fri Excellent pension scheme and generous company benefits, plus free on-site parking.
