St. John’s is a specialist school and college offering high quality education and care for young people aged 7-25 with a wide range of special educational needs.
College View supports a group of young people aged 19-25 with a diverse range of complex needs and characteristics, all of whom struggle to communicate their needs. This means we work with individuals in very specific ways to meet their needs, that’s not to say that other learners receive a blanket approach by any means, but the College View learners require specific attention to detail. Staff will need to be aware and work in a proactive manner to ensure learners are supported effectively, feel secure and reduce anxieties.
Becoming part of the College View team means working, sometimes on your own, with people who will test you, present behaviours that challenge and expose you to the more extreme reaches of support work at St. John’s and requires support workers who are flexible with strong emotional resilience and skills in reflective practice.Title College View Lead Residential Support Worker Hours 40 hours per week as per rota 52 weeks per year + 30 days holiday Base College View House, St. John’s College, Brighton Salary £20,500 – £23,000 depending on experience
Our aim is to promote the inclusion of all learners ensuring they have equal access to opportunities to become as independent as possible. Our expectation is that all staff in learner facing roles will actively promote life skills and making choices.· Positive and compassionate attitude towards Learners. Promoting the rights of residents to be treated with dignity and respect in every aspect of their lives. · Establish supportive relationships with residents and encourage the development of stable relationships between all parties involved in the learner’s placement. · Respect the confidences of resident young people, except where to do so would result in harm to a resident, damage to the organization or the commission of a criminal offence. · Promote the emotional health and self-esteem of residents, supporting them through changes in living circumstances and personal relationships. · Evidence of valuable Positive Behaviour Support planning and support resident young people in making their own choices and decisions to the maximum of their capability, and ensure that the needs and wishes of residents are fully considered in any decision relating to them. · Liaise with the Line/Care Manager of any shifts that would require cover on the rota in a timely manner. · Evidence of understanding, creating and implementation of Risk Assessments as well as evident experience of balanced and professional use of dynamic risk assessment and responses to behaviours that challenge. · Ensure the protection of residents from significant harm, by exercising vigilance, observing changes in the residents’ behavior or appearance, and complying fully with St. John’s Child/Adult Safeguarding policy.
