We have an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a reputable marine design company on a contract basis in Southampton. Our client provides expert services including Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering and Mechanical Engineering to marine projects such as yachts, commercial and naval vessels. This would be a great opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading, independent company.

As the selected candidate, you will have a number of key roles and responsibilities:

* Provide a skilled contribution to the design work for assigned projects within the company and maintain the technical requirements and the standard of deliverables required.
* Share knowledge and experience with colleagues across all disciplines, working in a close collaboration on all projects.
* Actively manage the quality of work produced and complete tasks in a timely and transparent manner.
* Produce designs using AutoCAD and develop and reference design information using Rhino.

Essential skills, experience and attributes:

* Extensive experience of working within a ship design office or shipyard.
* A sound working knowledge of ship rules and regulations.
* Experience of taking responsibility for engineering design calculations and answering technical queries, with a good understanding of system design theory.
* High skill level using AutoCAD 2D and Rhino 3D.
* Ability to undertake basic ship design calculations
* Systems and pipework modelling and draughting experience is an advantage
* Experience of specialist vessels, including small craft and luxury yachts may also be relevant
* Ability to meet targets and deliverables deadlines.
* Commercial awareness with ability to ensure that work is completed to an appropriate standard and level of detail.
* Good MS Office skills, to develop reports, spreadsheets and presentations.
* Good communication skills, with the ability to liaise with colleagues across all disciplines.
