We are currently working on an exciting opportunity for a Senior Systems Administrator with our truly brilliant client a large, well established company who are based on the Science Park in Cambridge. The company are a busy games development studio and are on the lookout for someone to join their busy IT Support Team. Recently they have moved into an impressive brand new purpose built facility with all mod cons!

The role is a hands-on role responsible for maintaining, upgrading software, hardware and network infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to the internal teams. As such, we are seeking a friendly and approachable individual who has a keep interest in computers and is happy working both on their own and as part of a team as required.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:

* Responsible for the smooth running of internal systems for our business-support department and game teams

* Engineering of SA- related solutions for various project and operational needs

* Monitoring and tuning of infrastructure to deliver performance and high reliability

* Handling 3rd line issues, reported by in-house team members and seeing issues through from initial diagnosis to resolution

* Apply and maintain OS and Software patches and upgrades on a regular basis

* Prioritise and managing several open projects and issues at one time

* Documenting process and procedures using internal CMS systems

* Mentoring/ cross training other team members on new and existing technologies

* Provide after-hours support for emergencies as well as occasional evening maintenance

* Carry out special tasks at Managements discretion

This is a full time, permanent role with hours of 09:00 – 17:30 Monday – Friday. There may some flexibility in terms of start and finish times if required. For this role we are seeking a candidate with a deep understanding of computer systems, servers, software and networking. Resourcefulness is a necessary skill in this role. Candidates must be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly and also the patience to communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and users. The ability to project manage and take responsibility for improvements/ changes as required by the business. Also required are excellent analytical problem solving skills as well as listening and questioning skills.

To be considered, we are seeking a candidate with the following qualifications and experience:

* Proven experience as a System Administrator in a commercial capacity

* Solid experience and knowledge of maintaining a Windows Server 2008R2 – 2016 Active environment including DNS, DHCP, DFS

* Strong knowledge of Linux environments – Centos/ Ubuntu

* Experience of WAMP/ LAMP stacks – Apache, NGINX, IIS , MS, SQL Server, MySQL Server

* Good experience of Virtualisation in Windows Hyper –V Cluster and Citrix Xen

* Skills in LAN Routing ,switching, VLAN design, configuration and troubleshooting

* Ability to create and maintain tools/ scripts in C#, DOS, Powershell, Python among others

* Ability to trouble-shoot network issues including back-bone infrastructure

* Managing in excess of 50 Windows/ Linux servers and infrastructure

* Experience of Dell server hardware, SAN’s and Backup systems

* Also experience of maintaining and configuring Network switches and wireless APC’s –Dell, HP and Cisco

* Experience of Microsoft Exchange and Skype server software

Some experience and exposure to the following would also be highly desirable:

* Degree in Computer Science or related discipline

* An understanding of Software deployment and patch management

* Experience of working within a fast-paced game or other development environment

* Exposure to cloud environment of AWS, Azure and a wide-range of development software packages such as JIRA, Confluence, Hansoft, FlexLM, Docker, Autodesk 3D Studio Max, Autodesk Maya, Adobe Creative suite and Visual Studio

* Familiarity with chance control processes and ITIL standards

* Knowledge of Samsung Phone Exchange and associated peripherals
