Job Description
Senior Magento Backend Developer
Role Purpose
This role is to provide high quality backend development experience across a range of clients, across different industries. The Senior Magento Backend Developer is expected to be a thought leader within this space, providing proactive recommendations for clients and Gravytrain.
This role will be the ‘go to’ person for all Magento backend development, and will work alongside the Account Managers and Project Managers to make sure clients are delivered high quality commercially viable solutions. This role needs to have a high level of understanding of the current industry trends.
As well as being client facing, the Senior Magento Backend Developer is expected to help other developers, and provide constructive peer review on tasks being completed. The responsibility of code quality is with this role.
It is important for the person in this role to be organised, accurately logging their time, and be able to help manage the time of other developers.
This role is expected to be advise on best development practices; and draw on previous experience to make realistic and commercially viable solutions to problems.

Main Activities
Below is a non-exhaustive list of day-to-day activities that are involved in this role:
• Take part in Scrum style stand-ups
• Estimate and evaluate tickets
• Communicate solutions effectively to clients, managers and other developers
• Instruct other developers effectively in best practices
• Develop new functionality and modules to Magneto standards
• Iterate and improve on existing functionality and modules to Magento standards
• Commit work effectively to version control within the set framework
• Be responsible for your own and others list of tasks
• Communicate and advise developers on best practices
• Train staff and clients
• Take part in client meetings and phone calls to provide solutions
• Proactively make recommendations to clients based on their business model and customer group
Skills & Capabilities
The ideal candidate must have commercial experience in the following skills or have relevant transferable skills:
• Magento Backend Developer Plus Certified
• Magento CE 1.9 or Magento CE 2.0+ experience
• Magento EE 1.14 or Magento EE 2.0+ experience
• MVC Framework experience
• Demonstrable Object Orientated (OO) PHP 5.6/7 development experience
• MySQL 5.6+ experience
• Advanced database knowledge (including Redis/MemCache)
• Demonstrable experience producing Magento modules
• Demonstrable experience integrating Magento and external software (ERP, CRM, etc.)
• Experience debugging Magento code
• Using AJAX (XML, JSON, etc.) within a web application
• Code Performance and Optimisation experience
• SSH & Linux Operations
• Magento feature set knowledge
• Use of Full Page Caching
• Use of New Relic or similar for debugging and performance
• Use of AWS hosting and features
• Producing a testing plan
• HTML 5
• CSS3
• JavaScript/jQuery
• Git/SVN Version Control
• PHP development best practices
• Microsoft Office (minimum: Word, Excel & Outlook)
• Multi-device & Multi-browser testing
