As the Software Manager, you will be responsible for the management of the entire software department. You will ensure the timely and effective delivery of software products within the business catalogue. Problems you will address involve the interpretation of cases and evaluation of requirements, which demands constant inter-action with customers and across Departments. There is a requirement to look for solutions involving originality, drawing both on current practices and acquired knowledge and skills.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
• You will report to the Managing Director and will supervise Software Testers and Developers
• You will be leading and coaching the cross-functional team (+30 individuals), both from a technical and managerial stance
• Understanding the required skills and capacity necessary to deliver the project pipeline
• Designing and establishing the team, either with permanent or variable workforce through hiring, training, coaching and mentoring them
• Maintaining a continuous strategy of personal improvement, monitoring progress and results against set targets per individual in the team
• Carrying out regular appraisals that recognise efforts and corrects deficiencies, supported with development plans
• Maintaining and improving existing processes, you will define, deploy and drive new sustainable processes, throughout the development cycle
• Tailoring and implementing software development methodologies, standards and best practices
• Defining and measuring key performance indicators and defining corrective actions on measurable metrics
• You will be responsible for project management of the production pipeline
• You will be familiar with different software development life cycles, such as Waterfall, Agile, or Rational Unified Process
• Delivering of product roadmaps, projects, change requests and defect resolutions
• Elicit and maintain the necessary project intelligence, to ensure cross department collaboration and visibility to key stakeholders
• Ensuring that project deviations are addressed promptly and efficiently, minimizing effects on deadlines and budgets
• You will have a metric-driven, customer-centric focus to execution and delivery, in balance with business needs
• You will be accountable for ensuring that contract documentations meet the required National and Company standards
• You will be responsible for maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of information dealt with or held by yourself and your team
Knowledge and Skills
• Educated to a degree level in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics/similar or able to demonstrate a proven track record/experience
with equivalent skills
• Proven experience in Software Management and Software Team Management
• Strong communication skills, in particular; listening, negotiating and facilitation skills
• You will be a strong team leader and you will be comfortable with conflict management
• You will have a strong background in project management. (Training in project management would be equally very desirable)
• A good understanding of technologies such as; C++,C#, .NET,SQL, PHP & WEB
• Proven and demonstrable experience as a software developer
Internal contact is a key feature of the job, involving the post holder in liaison and consultation with colleagues at all levels across the Company. Externally, the post holder will have regular contact with customer and clients which may include the NHS, Practice Managers, Practice Staff, General Practitioners, Clinicians, CCG and Health Authority representatives.
This position is mainly office based, however please be advised that regular attendance is required at meetings, conferences and exhibitions around the country. Please also take note that there is a requirement to work to strict internally or externally imposed deadlines. This is a permanent full time post, Monday to Friday (40 hours). You may occasionally be required to go above and beyond your normal duties to support the business. This organisation has sites in Bodmin (Cornwall) and Plymouth and this position can be conducted from either site.
