About University of Wolverhapton

The University of Wolverhampton is a modern university in the heart of the Black Country. We are proud of our track record-delivering excellence in teaching and research as well as being an integral part of economic growth and social change within the region and beyond.

What will you be doing?

The University has a new leadership team in place. The University Executive Board (UEB) has a clear mandate to find the pathways that will allow the university to invest in key areas, and drive transformation and improvement in the experience we offer our students.

The scale of the university’s ambition can be seen in programmes such as our recent five year, £250m investment programme. This delivered benefits such as a brand new School of Architecture and the Built environment and a world class “Elite Centre for Manufacturing Skills” – both central to our vision of enhancing the student experience and supporting business growth.  The new Screen School has also recently opened which is aimed at boosting skills in the digital arts and media industries.

The UEB is also responsible for steering the university through a very challenging financial landscape. This is an issue not unique to Wolverhampton but is a Higher Education sector wide challenge. One impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has been enrolment numbers, the result of which has been a subsequent reduction in income from students that is now impacted by  increases in costs such as staff and pension costs.

What are we looking for?

  • Attainments and qualifications: first degree (or equivalent) and evident of continuing professional development.
  • Ability to think and act strategically. Personal expertise in an area relevant to the responsibilities of Board.
  • High levels of written and oral communication skills. The ability to listen to others and analytical skills.
  • Ability and willingness to be an ambassador for the University.
  • Ability to work in effective teams and with other members of the Board, the Vice Chancellor, and other members of the University Executive.
  • To be able to be diplomatic but firm.
  • To be prepared to give University business a high priority

What difference will you make?

Over the coming months, the UEB will require expert support and counsel from Independent Governors to help it make the big decisions needed to create robust foundations on which to build for the future.
