The Role

Leadership & Management of Medical Affairs

* To develop a strong medical affairs function in the UK

* Recruitment & leadership of the MSL(s)

* Planning medical activities and management of resources

* Production of materials & briefings required to support medical affairs activities

Scientific support

* Medical training of relevant stakeholders

* Ensure high scientific level and accuracy of marketing material

* Respond to requests for information on off-label or unlicensed products

* To conduct regular literature reviews to highlight interesting and relevant publications

Engaging key opinion leaders

* Gather intelligence on the patient pathway and therapeutic decision making for relevant disease areas

* Identify thought leaders for advisory boards, conference speaking and undertaking clinical research and establish close relationships with these KOLs

* HCP interaction on a peer-to-peer basis to influence and drive through strategic objectives

Medical information

* Develop scientific presentations and other non-promotional material to engage and influence healthcare professional opinion

* Respond to medical and scientific queries with high quality and evidence based information in a timely manner

* Support company sponsored and investigator initiated research activity

In house registered medical signatory

* Responsible for the medical sign off in accordance with the ABPI of both promotional and non-promotional activities/initiatives.

* To identify potential project pit falls and provide advice in the early phase of projects to ensure the finalised work is aligned with the company compliance rules

* Ensure completed work meets the company high standards of quality and effectiveness

* To facilitate a resolution when varying opinion is in danger of derailing a successful outcome

Market access

* To lead on successful reimbursement process for new and existing products as required.

* Create documentation to support reimbursement applications

* Identify/build/maintain relationship with NHSE stakeholders

* Engage with NHSE and present required information for reimbursement process

* To maintain up to date knowledge of the market access pathway


* Registered Pharmacist (General Pharmaceutical Council) or Physician (preferably GMC) and required for the candidate to hold Nominated Signatory status.

* Complementary experience in the pharmaceutical/ biotechnology/healthcare industry.

* Medical Affairs or Healthcare experience with specific medical science knowledge and experience. Specialist experience in biologic therapies


* Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and motivate a team.

* Proven expertise in the ABPI Code of Practice

* Excellent understanding of the NHS environment

* Extensive commercial awareness with evidenced application to medical strategies
