Inclusion Manager - Inclusion & Youth Services

Required: 1 January 2023

Powys Inclusion and Youth Services work in partnership with schools and other services and partners, to support pupils with additional learning needs (ALN) and other vulnerable groups.

We are seeking to appoint a successful and experienced leader with a sound understanding of specialist ALN pedagogy and knowledge to join our inclusion service. The successful candidate will need to have a working knowledge of external and internal policy and practice relating to pupils with ALN. This post will be one of three Inclusion Managers (two permanent inclusion managers and one seconded), working under the direction of the Service Manager for Inclusion and Youth Services. The ability to travel across Powys is essential.

Candidates should be passionate about inclusion, equality and diversity and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The inclusion role is very varied and service members deal with a wide range of people and community organisations: parents and carers; schools, early education settings and colleges; health professionals such as therapists and pediatricians; social workers; family support workers. A lot of the work is very complex and so you need to be resilient and need good communication and problem-solving skills. You will have a key role in leading on behaviour support, and nurture provision across the local authority. In addition, you will line manage other teams, which could include specialist teachers, caseworkers or the CLA virtual school team. You will also be expected to lead on statutory processes, alongside other inclusion managers. In addition, you will provide support and challenge for some special schools and/or PRU. You will also be expected to represent the service manager for inclusion and youth services at corporate, regional and national level. The ability to plan and deliver high quality training to a range of stakeholders is essential.
