We are recruiting to an exciting opportunity to work as a Nurse Consultant at St Christopher's Hospice in South East London.

St Christopher's was founded in 1967 by Dame Cicely Saunders and led the development of the modern hospice movement. Fully committed to delivering education and research programmes alongside expert practice related to the experiences of death, dying and loss, we aim to provide a holistic approach to our care, offering help and support at home as well as in outpatient and inpatient settings.

Operating from two locations, one in Sydenham and one in Orpington, our efforts are focused on meeting the goals of people facing palliative and end of life conditions and supporting their families and carers wherever we can. Our reach spans across a diverse population of approximately 1.7 million people within the five London Boroughs of Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. We employ around 600 staff (including bank staff) who work within the community and across our two patient sites. We are supported by around 1350 volunteers, many of whom provide their invaluable services on a regular basis.

We are a charity, led by a Board of Trustees and we raise significant funds each year through the generosity and commitment of our local communities. In addition, we raise funds through commercial activities, including 22 charity shops.

We are looking for a highly skilled registered nurse who has experience of, and is passionate about, delivering high quality palliative and end of life care embracing the five pillars of advanced practice and consultancy. If you have the skills to hold corporate responsibility, leadership skills, clinical competence and have attitudes and characteristics of a consultant we would love to hear from you.

This challenging and dynamic consultant role will work closely with the senior leaders and multidisciplinary team at the Hospice and other stakeholders, to promote excellence in end of life care through clinical leadership and practice, education, training and research. You will act as a source of clinical and nursing expertise in the care of people reaching the end of their life with both cancer and non-cancer diagnoses. This includes those living with frailty, dementia and neurological conditions.

You will autonomously assess and support people to live well until they die drawing on, and enacting advanced proactive skills and critical thinking. You will use your skills of consultant practice in advanced assessment and also non-medical prescribing to enhance your care provision to the people across the five London Boroughs we serve.

The successful applicant will want to actively participate in a broad range of teaching activities, leadership opportunities, research programmes and enjoy being part of a vibrant team advancing palliative and end of life care at local national and global levels.

The role does involve working weekends and Bank Holidays and on occasion until 21.00 at night.

If you feel that you have the skills and attributes we are looking for, in the first instance please contact;
