Key Aim:

The Fleet Reliability Project Manager is responsible for providing Leadership and Technical project management for all aspects of Reliability Engineering related on Wabtec Rolling Stock projects (inc. EMU / DMU (inc bi& tri mode) locomotives and LHCS).

This includes the creation, maintenance and management of fleet specific reliability growth plans, analysis of reliability data, and the identification of actions to ensure Wabtec's technical and contractual performance targets for fleets are achieved.

The role will act as the prime Wabtec technical, performance and reliability interface on customer's operational sites, especially where performance targets are a contractual requirement.

It is envisaged that the scope of work will also identify further business opportunities for Wabtec Transit Group which will be presented as a technical proposal to internal stakeholders.

Key Duties & Tasks:

Principle Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Lead the technical reliability analysis and associated reporting
  • Provide report summaries of incidents counts, and provide analysis of data used for reliability and quality metrics
  • Lead development and implementation of fleet / system reliability growth plans to meet technical and contractual targets on fleet performance
  • Lead development and implementation of Wabtec's FRACAS / WIM Processes and Procedures to ensure correct identification of root cause.
  • Lead technical / reliability review meetings
  • Generate fleet specific Reliability and Product Improvement Management Plans, ensuring it is harmonised with all departments and is compliant with Quality/ISO certifications and audits
  • Ensure wider engineering team correctly prioritise FRACAS / WIM items in accordance their criticality
  • Ensure any items flagged as applicable for FRACAS / WIM process to be tracked and included on reliability growth plan
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as may be required

  • Comply with company and statutory Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental and other policies and procedures
  • Ensure all reports proactively participate in Health & Safety management processes

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with current and potential customers in such a manner as to maintain the reputation of the company as a world class supplier of railway vehicle services.

Continuous improvement
  • Identify methods of improvement within the area of responsibility
  • Link to the Wabtec Transit Group to deploy improvement initiatives (WMS, new technologies, etc.)

  • Adhere at all times to the company's Health, Safety & Environmental instructions, and requirements
  • Take on any other reasonable responsibilities or tasks that are within the employee's skills and abilities. Support Wabtec UK objectives.

Working Relationships:

Successful fulfilment of this role will be achieved through effective co-ordination with all key internal teams, located in the UK, based at Wabtec facilities, delivery depots, and customers.

Person Specification




Education & Qualifications

Engineering qualification HNC / HND / Degree

Business/Management/Finance. PRINCE2 or APM qualified.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Previous experience and a proven track-record of successful Fleet / technical engineering / reliability management in the rail industry on modern passenger fleets.
  • Project Management Experience
  • Sound understanding of:
  • Modern train systems
  • FRACAS, Cost Benefit Analysis, FTA methodologies.
  • Concepts for compliance with safety and reliability requirements.
  • Previous experience in reliability growth models and technical leadership.
  • The ability to provide technical guidance and leadership within a matrix organization structure.
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision, often in customer locations, setting clear targets and deliverables to ensure the achievement of Project goals
  • Business acumen
  • Commercially/legally aware
  • Experience of dealing directly with customers and suppliers
  • Passion and drive to deliver, "must do" attitude.
  • Flexible and forward thinking, able to lead and operate effectively in a project fleet introduction environment.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues effectively both orally and in writing to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Sound IT skills(particularly Excel)
