Main Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible to: Head of School of Computing & Engineering (Line Manager)

1. Working closely with the Head of School, Academic Subject Leaders, our German partners, and other members of the School leadership, lead the development of the Duren Institute on behalf of UOG, including course portfolio development and delivery as well as coordinating research and knowledge exchange activities with German enterprises; to liaise with FHM on all matters related to the Institute;

2. To develop the strategies and to coordinate the activities needed to meet or exceed the goals of the Institute, notably increase the education opportunities available to the local Dueren people, equipping them to thrive in a digital world and providing more skilled workers that will help address the cyber skills gap;

3. Working closely with the University Communications, Marketing & Student Recruitment teams, support the Head of School to create a recognisable and impactful brand presence for the School, positioning it as a leader in the UK University sector for cyber and computing, offering a contemporary, forward-looking, and highly innovative environment, ensuring the portfolio and environment for learning are effectively promoted;

4. Manager the interfact between the School and other key subjects both within and outside the School to ensure effective partnership approaches to optimise the benefits of the unique expertise and combinations of subjects at UoG;

5. In line with the University Research Strategy, support the building of further capacity and recognised expertise in the development and application of cyber security, support bids for securing successful research and knowledge exchange funding;

6. To teach as part of a team in Cyber and Technical Computing specialisms, including specific modules on cyber security, and related disciplines at undergraduate and postgraduate level providing excellent learning opportunities and offering academic guidance and support for students;

7. To make a positive contribution to the wider School and University strategic initiatives as part of the School Leadership Team, including line management as required;

8. To undertake staff development activity and work with other leaders to create an excellent environment for staff development for all members of staff within the School;

9. To undertake any other duties and responsibilities, commensurate with the grade of the post, properly directed by the line manager. These variations will not change the general character of the post or the level of responsibility entailed.
