Manufacturing Process Manager (Accelerometers/Sensors)

The Role

DJB Instruments manufactures accelerometers and associated products from their Mildenhall facility. We need a Manufacturing Process Engineer, reporting to the General Manager, who will lead the development of manufacturing process methods to enhance the company sensor product portfolio within a lean manufacturing environment.

The role is ideal for a Manufacturing Process Engineer with experience in high-precision, high-quality manufacturing processes and a demonstratable working knowledge of lean / six-sigma practices.

The CMTG (Condition Monitoring Technology Group) group supplies hardware, sensors and software products for noise & vibration measurement and condition monitoring solutions for the Automotive, Aerospace, Power Generation, Advanced Manufacturing, Industrial, and Defence sectors. You will be a member of a supportive, hard-working team within a growing engineering organisation. You will be expected to travel to other UK group sites for regular strategy, progress and management meetings.

The role encompasses:
  • providing manufacturing process control leadership in the Mildenhall facility
  • maintaining and improving the existing range of accelerometers through continuous manufacturing process improvement
  • evaluating quality control processes and making recommendations for improvements to enhance manufacturing yields
  • analysing and reporting on production processes, methods, schedules, downtime, cycle times, availability of machines and waste management
  • ensuring that the organisation's manufacturing processes follow relevant policies and government laws and regulations
  • working with the machine shop team to
  • review and calculate the costs of the different tools and equipment in the production process and predict the overheads in future production requirements
  • analyse and plan workflow, space requirements and equipment placement to maximise manufacturing efficiency in a lean manufacturing environment
  • coordinate maintenance and repair services to keep production and test equipment operational
  • make sure that staff follow the manufacturer's procedures and instructions while operating the equipment
  • working with R&D engineers to design the manufacturing processes required to produce new products, produce prototypes, etc.
  • contributing to strategic innovation of the DJB product range
  • supply knowledge and resource where needed across the CMTG group of companies

This role is based around a 38.5-hour week with 25 days of annual holiday rising to 30 days with continuous service (plus public holidays). Flexitime is available with the possibility to finish early on Fridays. DJB offers a competitive remuneration package, including a group bonus scheme and a flexible, friendly working environment. Experience

Must have:
  • Proven record of accomplishment of leadership in a high precision manufacturing/engineering environment
  • Direct working knowledge of manufacturing process and quality control processes
  • Direct experience of implementing lean manufacturing processes
  • Experience in measuring and reporting on production processes, methods, schedules, downtime, cycle times, availability of machines and waste management
  • Understanding of test procedures and calibration of precision products
  • Strong background in relevant policies and government laws and regulations
  • Ability to work confidently with all levels, from technician to board level
  • Good IT skills
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:
  • Six-Sigma Green/Black Belt training or other equivalent qualification
  • Experience in the application of Statistical Process Control and Design of Experiments (SPC/DOE) methodologies
  • Knowledge of piezoelectric accelerometers or another applicable metrology discipline
  • Knowledge of calibration processes and measurement uncertainty calculations
  • Knowledge of general test & measurement, instrumentation, sensors, and data analysis technologies, especially in the field of acoustics or vibration testing
  • Experience in 2D/3D CAD


The Person

The successful candidate will be qualified to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline or have equivalent and relevant industrial experience. We are looking for someone with five years or more of experience in a manufacturing environment. We are looking for a team player with leadership qualities who are willing to commit to the company's and group's ambitious goals.
