Seven Resourcing are looking for a temporary Admissions and Pupil Benefits Officer to work in Hackney. This position is initially for a period of 3 months and is for 21 hours per week. The hourly rate is £18.30 (paid to you via an umbrella company).

The role:
  • To process in-year admission applications from 'end to end' in accordance with Hackney learning Trust's schemes to coordinate primary and secondary admissions.
  • To process applications for admission to primary schools and transfer from primary to secondary school from 'end to end' in accordance with Hackney Learning Trust's coordination schemes for these processes.
  • To process applications for free school meals, clothing vouchers from 'end to end' and help with travel to school in accordance with agreed policies.
  • To provide high quality, customer focused advice and information to schools, parents and others about admissions and pupil benefit arrangements in writing, on the telephone and face to face.

Key Responsibilities:
  • To provide consistent, customer focused advice, help and support to parents, schools and others regarding all aspects of school admissions and pupil benefits nationally, across London and in Hackney.
  • To interpret complex information about school admissions legislation and the School Admissions Code, including advising on school admission appeals, admission arrangements and oversubscription criteria. E.g. explaining how admissions rules have been applied, or entitlement and how eligibility for free school meals, pupil premium or school transport has been determined.
  • To deal sensitively and confidentially with issues relating to children and young people's medical or social difficulties, complex family circumstances and the circumstances of children and families in need.
  • To determine outcomes of parental applications for community schools, including deciding which children should be allocated places in accordance with published rules and policies, and making offers to parents applying to own admission authority schools in accordance with the coordinated scheme and Pan-London business processes.
  • To ensure that own admission authority schools rank pupils in accordance with their oversubscription criteria and published admission arrangements.
  • To liaise as appropriate with other LAs on applications from Hackney residents to their schools and on their residents to Hackney schools.
  • To develop a good working relationship with Headteachers and other school staff whilst ensuring that schools meet their statutory obligations and comply with all aspects the School Admissions Code and relevant legislation.
  • To process applications with accuracy, speed and attention to detail using a database to manage pupil records, creating/updating existing records and recording admission outcomes in accordance with Hackney's admission arrangements and schemes of coordination, including formally notifying parents of the outcome of their application.
  • To use the database effectively to produce statistical reports and generate correspondence to parents and school through mail merging, tailoring letters as appropriate to the individual circumstances of the case.

Applicant Requirements:
  • Qualifications: A good standard of general education, in particular the ability to write to a good standard of literacy and with developed report writing skills.
  • Experience: 2 years working within a similar role.
  • Compliance: Proof of ability to work and live in the UK. Current DBS and references covering the last 5 years.
  • Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
  • Hours: 21 hours p/w.
