Tender is looking for a Trustee with current teaching experience at a senior level to join the board. You will have the opportunity to shape the future of the charity and to help us reach our goal of ending domestic abuse and violence.

Tender is an arts and education charity committed to preventing domestic abuse and sexual violence amongst young people by promoting healthy relationships. Founded in 2003, Tender has developed a wide range of award-winning arts education projects which empower young people, and the adults who work with them, to actively prevent domestic abuse and sexual violence, and promote gender equality in their schools, youth centres and communities. Through our work in London and our regional hubs, we have reached over 500,000 young people through our interactive workshops. We continue to expand; working with sixth forms, universities and corporate organisations to tackle sexual harassment.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for a Trustee who is currently in a senior leadership position in a primary or secondary school in England. This vacancy arises due to the retirement from Secondary Headship of our current Trustee with educational experience.

Our Trustees are vital to us, setting the strategy for the organisation, ensuring its financial stability and offering insights that help us to ask and answer questions. The Board of Trustees lead and control Tender and are responsible for its governance, policy and affairs. Trustees have responsibilities under charity and company law, and also under Tender’s Memorandum and Articles of Association, for directing the affairs of the organisation, ensuring that it is solvent, well run and delivers Tender’s objects. The day-to-day running of the charity is delegated to the CEO and the Senior Leadership Team.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for:

Current experience in a senior leadership team in a primary or secondary school in England, ideally in a Head Teacher or Deputy Head Teacher role.

Strong understanding of safeguarding in educational and youth settings.

A strategic thinker with the ability to balance risk and opportunity.

Clear communicator with the ability to explain policy issues affecting educational settings to people from other sectors.

We aim to remove any barriers, bias or discrimination that prevent individuals or groups from realising their potential and contributing fully to Tender’s performance and to develop a culture that positively values diversity. We are committed wherever practicable, to achieving and maintaining a workforce that broadly reflects the local communities in which we operate. If you have the right skills for the job, we want to hear from you. We welcome applications from people from all backgrounds and with all different kinds of life experiences. We ask applicants to complete an equal opportunities monitoring form.

What difference will you make?

You will help us to better understand the current and evolving policy framework applicable to schools and therefore better equip us to meet the needs of the schools and youth settings we work with. You will also take on the role of trustee designated safeguarding lead.

Time commitment

The Board meets at least four times a year, for approximately 3 hours. For further details, please see the candidate pack.
